This is a guitar instruction book that is for the beginner to
intermediate guitarist that not only shows you how to play chords,
but also how chords are formed and named. But this is not just a
chord book: It also explains music keys and chord progressions,
showing how to play chord progressions that have been used
successfully thousands of times in modern music. If you have ever
seen a guitarist sit in with another group and play along
flawlessly to a song that he or she has never heard before-it's
because he or she understands how chords, keys, and chord
progressions work together. Develop that ability by understanding
where the song is going before it gets there. This book does
something that other guitar methods do not: It encourages the use
of online resources and current music to solidify learning. What
could be more inspirational to a student's progress than playing
music that he or she likes? Don't just learn how, but learn why
Don't just learn with old folk songs like other guitar methods, but
learn with modern music-music that you love and that inspires you
This book also shows you how to play chords (including power
chords) all over the neck of the guitar-not just on the first three
frets. It shows how all chords come from just 3 basic chord shapes,
and how you can morph these basic chord shapes into a number of
different chords-all the chords you need to know to play today's
music. This book has reference pages to help you find each of these
chords on three different places on the guitar neck, as well as how
to change the key of any song. For those who want to write music,
this book is an indispensible tool to learning what chords to use
for what keys, how to change keys in a song that you are writing,
and examples of hit songs successfully using out-of-key chords to
give your music a modern sound. Take your playing and song-writing
ability to the next level
This guitar instruction book is a speed primer that takes you
through graduated techniques to play the guitar fast. Unlike other
"exercise books," Shred Tech. addresses ways for any player, no
matter the level, to achieve their own personal maximum speed of
playing the guitar through proper technique and using the right
pick. The various exercises help improve your playing both two and
three-note-per-string scales as well as the legato style techniques
of hammer-ons and pull-offs, string-skipping, two-hand tapping and
a bonus section on how to train yourself to play a difficult part
of any song. This is a must have for lead guitarists wanting to
take their playing to the next level Guitarist Tim Scullion, who
has received accolades for his playing from Steely Dan's vanguard
guitarist Elliot Randall, has a master's degree in education and
has spent years teaching the guitar as well as playing, writing,
and producing. The idea behind the book is to teach the fine motor
skills of playing the guitar fast; but this book is more than a
"book of exercises," it teaches the guitar student to really
improvise melodically rather than get locked into the box of just
playing scales. Scullion also encourages the creative aspect of
learning music by encouraging students to create their own leads or
exercises using the exercises given as a guideline not only to
address the guitar student's own preferences and tastes, but also
their weaknesses. With guided help through the various techniques,
the guitar student can learn how to focus on his or her weaknesses
and make them strengths. No matter what style of music you play
(rock, metal, jazz, country, blues, classical), you can improve
your playing dramatically by learning the fine motor skills of how
to play fast. Watch jaws drop when you demonstrate an amazing
technique on the guitar, and make it look easy. So put away the
video games and learn the techniques to make you a real guitar hero

What happens when you plunge an historical figure, the real Saint
Nicholas, into the modern world? Not the red-suited, toy-making
Saint Nicholas of American legend, but a man who exemplifies the
spirit of giving; who gives from the heart and who knows what
people need-not what they want. You get Nick, not really a man, but
the immortal spirit of giving, who gets the reader to examine the
spiritual side of life in a modern way but without a hint of
religious dogma. Nick deals with adolescence, family, racial, and
social issues and makes a positive difference in every life that he
touches as he helps them to cope with seemingly insurmountable
problems: Nick, a seemingly enigmatic old man, walks quietly into
the lives of twelve very different people and is deprecated with
prejudice, apprehension, and disdain about his strange appearance;
during the holiday season that initial perception changes to love
and respect as he helps orchestrate profound changes in each of
their futures through miraculous gifts. Meet the twelve deserving
people from all walks of life-all ages, all cultures, and
socio-economic backgrounds-as they each struggle with something in
their lives that holds them back from achieving their full
potential as human beings. Nick is a proponent of the idea of
giving oneself for the greater good. Nick helps a teenager in
abject poverty trying to cope with the loss of her brother, an
African-American mother and her illegitimate daughter enduring
prejudice and the racist responsible for their plight, the
unorthodox rescue of a sixteen-year-old girl from a sexual
predator, a Hispanic couple split apart by the husband's compulsive
obsession to put a drug dealer behind bars, a seventeen-year-old
gravitating towards the wrong circle of friends, politics replete
with graft, a mother coping with the possible loss of her
twelve-year-old boy, who is suffering the agony of cancer
treatments and life in an oncology unit, and a host of other
problems facing both adults and teens that ominously threaten his
goals. Each of the twelve days of Christmas will focus on a
miraculous gift as the lives of twelve different people become
woven together through a common thread that will change them
forever. Can 4th century ideals match up to 21st century reality,
and can modern man deal with the concept of the afterlife vis a vis
the paranormal? Parents can buy their children gifts; Nick is the
spirit of giving of oneself, requiring no price-tags, and that
inimitable spirit sees none of the boundaries that separate humans
from each other-socio-economic standing, race, age, sex, religion.
This is a guitar instruction book that is a definitive look at how
to sweep pick chords on the guitar. Sweep picking is when you move
your picking hand and pick across all or most of the strings with
one motion. You are not using the usual down and up-stroke motions
on the individual strings when you play: You are using an economy
of motion that will in the end go faster, sound better, and be more
rhythmically in time. This is a must have for lead guitarists
wanting to take their playing to the next level No matter what
style of music you play (rock, metal, jazz, country, blues,
classical), you can improve your playing dramatically by learning
how to sweep pick. You can sound incredibly fast and competent when
you learn the techniques in this book. This book shows you how to
sweep pick any chord anywhere on the neck of the guitar, using
diagrams and guitar tabulature to make the learning process easy.
This is not a generic formula for all chords-each chord sweep is
treated differently, with ideas that are melodic and original. The
types of chords taught: Major, minor, major 7th, minor 7th, 9th,
minor 9th, dominant 7th, 13th, diminished, major 7th #5, major 7th
b5; not to mention learning chordal scales and tapping sweeps. All
of these chords are essential knowledge for any lead guitarist-and
knowing how to sweep pick them is icing on the cake So put away the
video games and learn the techniques to make you a real guitar hero

The Kids 4ever Club is a book of fun and creative activities for
children and the young at heart. Questions accompany each activity
that spur a child's creativity and imagination. In a world where
many children sit passively in front of the television set or
playing with premade toys for hours on end, the Kids 4ever Club
urges them to actively pursue activities that will challenge them.
The husband and wife team of Tim and Gail Scullion have created and
belonged to the "Kids 4ever Club" for years, and have just recently
decided to share their club with other "kids"-both young and old.
The couple vowed early on in their marriage to never forget what it
was like to be young and have fun, because you don't quit playing
because you grow old-you grow old because you quit playing. Tim
decided to use his master's degree in education to stimulate
children's imagination through fun: By making learning fun, you can
create a life-long desire to learn. To be a "kid 4ever" is to make
a change of your whole outlook on life, and it is both mind
changing and cathartic. If you are a parent or grandparent, all you
have to do is spend some time with your child or grandchild and
really listen to what he or she says. Children will make the change
for you: They will open your eyes to an uncomplicated, unprejudiced
way of looking at the world. They will lead you to the simpler
things in life: Conversation, imagination, play, and discovery. Be
careful-you might learn something from them They will reteach you
some of life's most important lessons; lessons that you have
learned and tucked away somewhere in the farthest reaches of your
mind. The mind of a child is a guide to a treasure-the treasure of
rediscovering your inner child. Spend quality time with your
child/children, and every once in a while put away the premade toys
and video games and imaginate: (That's a kids 4ever term for
imagine + create-actually it's a real, but obscure English word.)
Imaginate your own toys, games, musical instruments and activities.
Stimulate the creative juices in your own child's mind instead of
letting them sit passively in front of the television set. Don't
just let your children be a member of the Kids 4ever Club, but join
too Be an active part of your child's life and make learning,
discovering, and imaginating fun. If you as a
parent/grandparent/teacher do this, your kids will want to learn,
will never stop learning, and will be creative and successful as
adults.
This is a guitar instruction book that is a definitive look at how
to play all 7 modes on the guitar. Learn just 7 scale patterns and
play all of the modes across the whole neck of the guitar This is a
must have for lead guitarists wanting to take their playing to the
next level No matter what style of music you play (rock, metal,
jazz, country, blues, classical), you need to learn the 7 different
modes of western music to enhance your playing. Each mode (Ionian,
Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian) has its own
sound and invokes its own feeling when played over a chord
progression. For example, one mode can have a classical or flamenco
(Latin) sound when played on an acoustic guitar, but when played on
an electric guitar with distortion can have a neoclassical metal
sound. Variations of each pattern are given for those that prefer
either a one-position scale (the hand does not move up the neck) or
a 3-note-per-string scale that involves short hand movements but
will help guitarists who want to build up more speed; diagrams are
also given for both 6 and 7 string guitars. For each mode 4
examples of guitar licks or phrases are given in both standard
musical notation and in guitar tabs; 2 examples are melodic phrases
and 2 examples are shred or jazz fusion licks. Not only will you
learn how to play each mode, but you will also learn an easy secret
to figure out what chords can be played with each mode. Chord
diagrams are provided to show all of the different chord options
you will have to play in a certain mode. Finally diagrams are given
to show which scale pattern(s) can be played with common bar chords
so that no matter where you are on the neck of the guitar you will
be able to play something. The most amazing thing of all is that if
you memorize just 7 scale patterns, you can play any mode anywhere
on the neck of the guitar
