Stories for Ways and Means features original "grown up" story
collaborations by some of this era's most compelling storytellers
from the worlds of music and contemporary art. Ten years ago Jeff
Antebi, the founder of music publisher Waxploitation, had an idea
to ask his favorite music artists and favorite contemporary
painters to come together and collaborate on original children’s
stories for a benefit project. The resulting 350-page book includes
stories from Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Frank Black, Justin Vernon,
Laura Marling, Devendra Banhart, Alison Mosshart and Kathleen Hanna
as well as painters/illustrators like Anthony Lister, Dan Baldwin,
Swoon, Will Barras, James Jean, Ronzo, Kai & Sunny, and more.
Guest narrators came along for fun as featured voices in short
promo films: Danny Devito, Zach Galifianakis, Nick Offerman, Phil
LaMarr, King Krule, and Lauren Lapkus. The project supports NGOs
and nonprofit organizations advancing children's causes around the
world, including Room to Read, Pencils of Promise, 826 National,
and many more.
A collection of wildly inventive portraits of musician Tom Waits,
the result of a 30-year collaboration with photographer and
illustrator Matt Mahurin This visually arresting book is a
testament to the unique collaboration, going back three decades,
between the photographer and illustrator Matt Mahurin and the
musician Tom Waits. Having shot magazine portraits, album covers,
and music videos of Waits, Mahurin was inspired to resurrect 100
dormant film negatives as a jumping off point to explore his own
surreal, poetic, and occasion ally dark vision. The images vary
from traditional por traits to ones that capture Waits in
concert-but the majority are richly imagined scenes in which Waits
is more muse than musician. In addition to the diverse images, the
book includes a foreword by Waits, an essay by Mahurin on their
longtime collaboration, and 20 original paintings, drawings,
photographs, and digital images inspired by Waits's song titles.

A local biker-gang leader (Mickey Rourke), despite reforming his
ways, is still the hero of local adolescents. His younger brother
(Matt Dillon) idolises him, even though his mentor strives to
persuade him that he has done nothing to be proud of. Shot in black
and white (with occasional touches of colour), this is an
atmospheric rites-of-passage tale with a musical score by Stewart
Copeland and featuring many members of the so-called eighties 'Brat
Pack'.
(The Little Black Songbook). A pocket-sized collection of Tom Waits
songs, in chord songbook format, with complete lyrics and guitar
chords diagrams. 84 songs include: Alice * Chocolate Jesus *
Downtown Train * Hold On * I Wish I Was in New Orleans * Jersey
Girl * Long Way Home * Martha * The Piano Has Been Drinking (Not
Me) * Soldier's Things * Warm Beer and Cold Women * and more.

Photographer Anders Petersen was hanging out at a dive bar on the
Reeperbahn in Hamburg in 1968 when someone grabbed his camera from
the table where he was sitting and started taking pictures.
Petersen used the opportunity to photograph the culprit—and the
rest of the bar’s motley crew of patrons. The resulting project
is one of the most revered photobooks of all time, a celebration of
a gritty city at the tail end of the sixties, and the cornerstone
of Petersen’s storied career. The images have become classics of
their genre; Tom Waits used one for the cover of his legendary
album Rain Dogs. Their candidness and authenticity remain as
eloquent today as when they were first published in 1978. This
sumptuously produced reissue features a new foreword by Waits, and
is certain to find a new audience, who will appreciate the stunning
analog photography and its elegiac collective portrait of the
fringes of society.
