This 1960s Italian drama stars Monica Vitti and Richard Harris and
marks director Michelangelo Antonioni's first venture into colour
film. Guiliana (Vitti) becomes mentally unstable after being in a
car accident but tries to keep her condition from her husband, Ugo
(Carlo Chionetti). Lonely, she begins to open up to Ugo's business
associate, Corrado (Harris), and they gradually become closer as
they spend more time together. Meanwhile, she suffers setbacks that
only seem to add to her feeling of isolation.

"I had just gotten away from it all, by which I mean all those
ordinary, boring things like skyscrapers, cigar-smoking
industrialists, linoleum, plastics, television, westerns and
marihuana. I had either seen or heard about them. Whether they are
good or bad is beside the point..." A nameless graphic designer is
haunted by the concentration camp in which he was once interned.
Obsessed with his past, as well as Italy's present 'economic
miracle' he retreats to a rural villa where he decorates the rooms
with "arrows, signs, advertisements"; invents a new, purposefully
incomprehensible typeface; and attempts to devise a marketing
campaign for stones. Upon finally returning to Milan life becomes
even more unbalanced. He loses his job and acquires a mistress whom
he soon confuses both with his wife and the memory of the young,
Czech woman he abandoned at the end of the war... Known primarily
as a screenwriter for Michelangelo Antonioni, Federico Fellini and
Andrei Tarkovsky among many others, Tonino Guerra also wrote poetry
and fiction. Reissued to mark the centenary of Guerra's birth, and
with a new introduction by acclaimed cultural critic Michael
Bracewell, Equilibrium remains a relevant, powerful, and intensely
visual account of a truly (post-)modern man.
Michelangelo Antonioni directs and co-writes this award-winning
Italian drama starring Gabriele Ferzetti, Monica Vitti and Lea
Massari. When a couple, Sandro and Anna (Ferzetti and Massari),
embark on a cruise with their friend Claudia (Vitti), all is well
until Anna goes missing. As Sandro and Claudia try to look for her,
they develop an attraction towards each other and quickly forget
about their missing friend.

Classic drama from legendary Italian director Michaelangelo
Antonioni. Walking through the dilapidated streets of Milan,
stopping and staring aimlessly out at the world, is strikingly
beautiful Lydia (Jeanne Moreau). Her husband, Giovanni (Marcello
Mastroianni), is a popular author whose newest publication is being
celebrated with a signing. When Lydia returns home later that
night, she is unresponsive to Giovanni, and acts bored and aloof.
Giovanni decides to take Lydia to a nightclub in town where they
watch African dancers perform acrobatic cabaret acts with full wine
glasses. But Lydia is still bored, so Giovanni takes her to a
friend's elegant cocktail party, where they both stay all night,
drifting from one flirtation to the next, uninterested in each
other. An emotional and inconclusive conversation between the
couple ends out the night as the sun rises.
