An incredible forced march of Indian laborers into the steaming
Mexican jungle by vicious, madmen labor agents. They are goping to
the monterias, the mahogany forest camps where they work as
indentured slaves. Many of these human beings will die in these
camps by beatings and hanging (depicted in B. Traven's THE
REBELLION OF THE HANGED). Along the way, they make their mark
against two of these agents who themselves don't survive the march
- right, and justly so - the Indians kill them! These Indians of
Southern Mexico become another determined group for "land and
freedon' by armed struggle in the Mexican Revolution of 1910.
Besides "The Rebellion of The Hanged" - "The General From The
Jungle" is another novel dealing with the exploitation of the
Indians in Mexico. Bruno Traven captures the spirit of these
Indians in his writings. These same Indians in the 1990's revolt
against the State as the modern day Zapatista's commanded by
sub-comandante Marcos. A Coillector's Edition.
Three Gringos while searching for gold in the mountains of Mexico
get caught-up in an incrdible situation of greed and manipulation.
The story, made into a movie directed by John Houston in 1948
starring Humphrey Bogart is a classic. Traven a German anarcharist
who escaped from his homeland during World War I is considered one
of the best, as well as mysterious, political fiction novelist of
the 20th Century. A Colledtor's Edition.
A simple story of Indian Mexican people thru the eyes of a Gringo
who was with them for 3 days. They come together in heart and soul
as they face the death of a young boy. As news travels during the
same night as the tragedy, throughout the jungle settlements, many
Indians arrive to console the grieving mother. The community unites
in a way that the so-called advanced societies can never achieve.
It is a philosophic story rather than political as are most of
Trven's novel - to a point. "The Bidge in The Jungle" is regarded
by many to be his finest novel. The reader finishes this story with
renewed faith and the courage and dignity of human beings. A
Collector's Edition.
In the mahogany lumber camps of southern Mexico, circa 1912,
Indians are enslaved and treated cruelly by the owners and madmen
overseers - camps where torture is the regular mode of discipline.
The great Mexican Revolution led by Emiliano Zapata and Pancho
Villa is breaking out all over the country and finally with great
courage the 500 camp workers rebel and form their own army, an
Indian army which marches out of the jungle to fight the rural
police and federal army. This political fiction story is real as it
slams you into the lives of these humble Indians. Three mysterious
men who work in these camps become the leaders and give one basic
reason for the armed struggle - Land and Liberty! The Indians, in
their hearts understand this call for rebellion and give everything
to this armed struggle for freedom and justice! A Collector's
Edition.
