Yards, crofts ginnels and lanes are found in many northern towns.
Kendal's yards are special and are fascinating to residents and
visitors alike. They are a characteristic feature of the town and
demonstrate the lively history of the people who lived and worked
in them. Originating in the burgage plots of Norman times, they
developed over the centuries into a maze of bustling little
communities lined with cottages and workshops. Their old names tell
of many interesting characters associated with them. With the slum
clearances of the 1960s and other town development, their number
has been drastically decreased. Today, they have become more of a
tourist attraction but are still living and working places and tell
engaging stories of their interesting past. In this book, the full
story of Kendal's Yards is told for the first time in fascinating
detail - their history and development, the origins of their names,
life in the old yards, their locations and much more. The
illustrations in the text and the extensive Gallery of photographs
provide 200 illustrations of most of the old yards which show
better than mere words the atmosphere and character of the yards
and the lives of their inhabitants.
This is the second and final volume of manuscripts by or relating
to Thomas Robert Malthus (1766-1834) that are now held at Kanto
Gakuen University in Japan. Volume I contains 75 items of
correspondence, while Volume II contains transcriptions of further
original manuscripts, including: four of Malthus' sermons; his
diary of a tour of the Lake District; an extensive set of
calculations in the bullion trade, suggesting that he was giving
serious thought to becoming a bullion trader on his own account;
lecture notes on European history from the fifth to the tenth
century; his wife's diary of their holiday in Scotland in 1826 and
an essay on foreign trade. These previously unknown and unpublished
manuscripts promise insights into his intellectual development and
the events and circumstances of his life, as well as glimpses of
the lifestyle of his wider family and contemporaries.

The manuscripts provide insights into Malthus' personal life -
especially his relationships with his parents and his tutors. They
also give details of the books he studied as a student, and suggest
hitherto unknown influences on his intellectual development. They
suggest a solution to the question of who or what influenced him to
omit the controversial theological chapters from later editions of
his Essay on Population, and his sermons present further evidence
of his religious views. The manuscripts represent a remarkable
discovery, more than 150 years after Malthus' death, of his
correspondence and other unknown writings.
Highly anticipated, the booklet 'Autism and Toilet Training Made
Easier' is the new toilet training guide that every parent or
support person of a child who has Autism, or another developmental
disability and is currently approaching the toilet training process
needs to have. Trevor Lewis, an experienced and qualified Behaviour
Specialist, Author, and Parent, has written this guide to make
toilet training a child with autism a fast, easy and less stressful
experience. His first toilet training booklet 'Toilet Training
Using the Dior Method' has sold well over 3000 copies, and many of
those who used these strategies had their child toilet trained in
just days After having assisted many different Parents to get their
child toilet trained when all others had failed to do so, he now
brings his expertise and experience to this easy to follow and
implement toilet training guide. As well as including three
different strategies for overall toilet training, so all Parents
and children are catered for, he also includes tips on 'getting
poo's in the loo', 'Night Time tips', and gaining compliance to aid
the process. "I hope you will give my booklet a go, as I have
written it to help Parents like you. I am confident that if you are
consistent, stick to the strategies, and are persistent in their
application, you will have a very good chance of having your child
toilet trained within days, or certainly well on the way to
success."
The Oxenholme Hounds is a fascinating narrative of The Oxenholme
Stag Hounds. It introduces the reader to the participants of the
hunt and their adventures and misadventures as they hunted during a
six-month period during 1934-5 over large areas of Cumbria and
Lancashire. The hunt was comprised of members of some of the most
influential families who lived in Kendal and the surrounding area
at that time and this book offers insights into some colourful
characters and lively accounts of the meets they attended. The
Oxenholme Hounds, which is illustrated with photographs and
charming paintings, perfectly captures the atmosphere and the
camaraderie of a past generation as they indulged in what is now a
forbidden pastime, (although, contrary to popular belief, the hunt
rarely resulted in a kill). After a long history the hunt was
eventually dispersed at the start of World War II and was never
restarted. The Oxenhome Hounds, however, remains as an absorbing
and enchanting social record of a bygone era.
