We are told from a young age that we should strive to make the
right decisions, but we aren't taught exactly how to do this. Every
day, we make over 35,000 decisions in our personal and professional
lives. How many of those decisions do we get right? This book will
help business executives systematically tackle these 35,000
decisions. Executives are forced to make critical decisions that
impact their lives, their employees' lives, and the lives of their
customers. Decisions like what products to create, who should be
hired, and what divisions to shut down are all commonplace in the
executive suite. This book offers three strategies for dealing with
decisions: problem-solving techniques, routines, and
decision-making frameworks. Each strategy is designed to help
readers achieve more clarity, gain time back, and improve the
quality of their decisions. The first one focuses on helping
readers solve the right problem instead of wasting time on the
wrong one. The second strategy helps deal with decisions that need
to be made once but can then be executed regularly. The third and
final strategy provides a three-step framework for making the most
important decisions in their lives. The focus of the author's work
is on helping readers use data to make better decisions. This book
gives readers the tools to convert the insights they learn from
their data into actionable decisions.

Handbook of Spatial Epidemiology explains how to model
epidemiological problems and improve inference about disease
etiology from a geographical perspective. Top epidemiologists,
geographers, and statisticians share interdisciplinary viewpoints
on analyzing spatial data and space-time variations in disease
incidences. These analyses can provide important information that
leads to better decision making in public health. The first part of
the book addresses general issues related to epidemiology, GIS,
environmental studies, clustering, and ecological analysis. The
second part presents basic statistical methods used in spatial
epidemiology, including fundamental likelihood principles, Bayesian
methods, and testing and nonparametric approaches. With a focus on
special methods, the third part describes geostatistical models,
splines, quantile regression, focused clustering, mixtures,
multivariate methods, and much more. The final part examines
special problems and application areas, such as residential history
analysis, segregation, health services research, health surveys,
infectious disease, veterinary topics, and health surveillance and
clustering. Spatial epidemiology, also known as disease mapping,
studies the geographical or spatial distribution of health
outcomes. This handbook offers a wide-ranging overview of
state-of-the-art approaches to determine the relationships between
health and various risk factors, empowering researchers and policy
makers to tackle public health problems.

The first major English translation of the final book in the
expansive and essential “Celia” series by Elena Fortún. Set
during the Spanish Civil War (1936–39), Celia in the Revolution
is the last in a series of young adult novels written by
EncarnaciĂłn Aragoneses, known by the pen name Elena FortĂşn, one
of the most prolific and popular Spanish authors of the
mid-twentieth century. In a series of more than twenty novels,
Fortún’s protagonist is Celia Gálvez de Montalbán, a
precocious and rebellious girl from an affluent family who’s not
afraid to question authority and dream, and that often gets her
into trouble. Readers watch her grow from age seven through
adolescence to the threshold of womanhood at seventeen, which is
her age in this dark, inspiring novel about the war that changed
Spain. In this last narrative in the legendary series, Celia has an
awakening that not even her lively imagination could have
anticipated. The once carefree, innocent child prone to playful
fantasies must suddenly confront a world that’s utterly changed,
finding herself amid a bloody conflict, la Guerra Civil. Celia, now
a madrecita, a little mother to her two younger sisters since the
death of their mother, is forced into a life of hardship, a world
of hunger, witness to violence, executions, bombing raids, and
death. With Celia’s sorrows come her courageous and profound
compassion, consoling and caring for virtually every war victim
that crosses her path, no matter their political inclinations, and
no matter all that Celia must contend with herself. Celia, despite
all her travails, manages to survive with determination, defiance,
and dignity. Written immediately after the war, Celia in the
Revolution was not published during Elena Fortún’s lifetime,
until after the death of the dictator, Francisco Franco, due to
censorship. This first major English translation by eminent scholar
and Hispanist Michael Ugarte captures the narrative and nuances of
Celia’s voice and others in this character-rich novel, and fellow
eminent scholar and Hispanist Nuria Capdevila-Arguëlles’s
preface brings powerful insights into this remarkable work by Elena
FortĂşn that transcends young adult literature.

Black Women in Latin America and the Caribbean:Â Critical
Research and Perspectives employs an intersectional and
interdisciplinary approach to examine Black cisgender women’s
social, cultural, economic, and political experiences in Latin
America and the Caribbean. It presents critical empirical research
emphasizing Black women’s innovative, theoretical, and
methodological approaches to activism and class-based gendered
racism and Black politics. While there are a few single-authored
books focused on Black women in Latin American and Caribbean, the
vast majority of the scholarship on Black women in Latin America
and the Caribbean has been published as theses, dissertations,
articles, and book chapters. This volume situates these social and
political analyses as interrelated and dialogic and contributes a
transnational perspective to contemporary conversations surrounding
the continued relevance of Black women as a category of social
science inquiry. Many of the contributing authors are from Latin
American and Caribbean countries, reflecting a commitment to
representing the valuable observations and lived experiences of
scholars from this region. When read together, the chapters offer a
hemispheric framework for understanding the lasting legacies of
colonialism, transatlantic slavery, plantation life, and persistent
socio-economic and cultural violence.
Cohesively Incorporates Statistical Theory with R Implementation
Since the publication of the popular first edition of this
comprehensive textbook, the contributed R packages on CRAN have
increased from around 1,000 to over 6,000. Designed for an
intermediate undergraduate course, Probability and Statistics with

Set during the last years of Spanish rule in Equatorial Guinea,
Shadows of Your Black Memory presents the voice of a young African
man reflecting on his childhood. Through the idealistic eyes of the
nameless protagonist, Donato Ndongo portrays the cultural conflicts
between Africa and Spain, ancestral worship competing with
Catholicism, and tradition giving way to modernity. The backdrop of
a nation moving toward a troubled independence parallels the young
man's internal struggle to define his own identity. Now in
paperback, Shadows of Your Black Memory masterfully exposes the
cultural fissures of Ndongo's native land. "Spanish Guinea" is a
heated, sensual landscape with exotic animals and trees, ancient
rituals, ghosts, saints, and sinners. We come to know the
narrator's extended family, the people of his village, merchants,
sorcerers, and Catholic priests; we see them critically at times,
even humorously, yet always with compassion and a magical dignity.
Michael Ugarte's sensitive translation captures the spirit of the
original Spanish prose and makes Ndongo's powerful, gripping tale
available to English-speaking readers for the first time.
