This is a State of the Art Report resulting from the work of RILEM
Technical Committee 224-AAM in the period 2007-2013. The Report
summarises research to date in the area of alkali-activated binders
and concretes, with a particular focus on the following areas:
binder design and characterisation, durability testing,
commercialisation, standardisation, and providing a historical
context for this rapidly-growing research field.
There is currently an explosive growth of basic and clinical
research in inflammatory bowel diseases. The extensive interest of
the medical community in these diseases is largely explained by the
devastating impact the illnesses have on the quality of life, their
high prevalence in the community, and the fact that so many medical
disciplines are involved in tackling the immensely complex studies
on pathogenesis, clinical expression and treatment possibilities.
The Falk Symposium No. 85 held in The Hague, the Netherlands, 29
June-1 July 1995 brought together over 80 speakers and 1000
participants from all over the world. Plenary sessions and
workshops allowed the discussion of basic and clinical research,
enabling appropriate choices to be made. Topics reflected areas of
high current basic research interest, clinical importance, and
actual or future treatment potential. Audience: An important work
for all disciplines involved in research and therapy of
inflammatory bowel diseases.
The constantly changing education landscape demands educators who
will deliver learners to a South African society worthy of the
highest ideals, learners who will, as adults, fulfil their life
roles as citizens and as productive, well-adjusted human beings. By
acquiring the necessary management and leadership knowledge and
skills, educators will be able to realise the ideal of building an
education system that focuses on excellence, is accessible to all
and promotes the development of those entrusted to them. An
educator's guide to school management-leadership skills focuses on
bringing education manager-leaders practical and school-based
directives so that they can deliver quality education to our
nation's learners. An educator's guide to school
management-leadership skills takes a holistic and integrated
approach, set against the backdrop of international successes such
as Finland's road to education transformation according to the PISA
tests. It focuses on the following Developing excellence in
schools: management-leadership discourses in education
Management-leadership tasks in complex school environments Managing
and leading human resources: staff, learners and community
relationships Managing and leading financial, administrative and
ICT matters in education An educator's guide to school management
skills is aimed at students and practitioners in the field of
education.
Bidirectional transmission over optical fibre networks may yield a
large cost reduction because of the reduction of the network
infrastructure by a factor two and the potential cost reduction by
an integrated transceiver design. It may also provide a
cost-effective way to upgrade distribution networks by adding
bidirectional channels. This book is the first to provide a
comprehensive overview of bidirectional transmission in optical
networks. It handles physical aspects: the behaviour of the fibre
itself in bidirectional transmission transmission aspects: the
behaviour and design of bidirectional systems and network aspects:
the influence of bidirectional transmission on network design.
GBP/LISTGBP Practical guidelines are also given for bidirectional
system design. Audience:This book is aimed at designers, builders
and operators of optical networks, e.g. the manufacturers of
optical transmission systems, public-network operators, developers
of local-area networks, cable-television operators, etcetera. The
intended level of readership is graduate level in physics or
electrical engineering.
Today's changed education landscape demands leaders who will
provide society with capable South Africans who are able to fulfil
their life-roles as citizens and as productive, well-adjusted human
beings. An educator's guide to school management skills aims at
providing education leaders and managers with practical,
school-based directives. This title focuses on four particularly
relevant aspects in our schools today: How to develop excellence in
schools; leadership and management skills; motivational skills;
current school management issues (i.e. effective teaching
personnel; management of information and time; school's finances;
managing of the instructional programme; community involvement;
legal aspects of employment; and gender equity).

Writing an academic book is a daunting task. Where to start? This
workbook. So, you’ve written a dissertation. Congratulations! But
how do you turn it into a book? Even if you know what to do when
revising your dissertation, do you know how to do those things?
This workbook by Katelyn E. Knox and Allison Van Deventer, creators
of the successful online Dissertation-to-Book Boot Camp, offers a
series of manageable, concrete steps with exercises to help you
revise your academic manuscript into publishable book form. Â
The Dissertation-to-Book Workbook uses targeted exercises and
prompts to take the guesswork out of writing a book. You’ll
clarify your book’s core priorities, pinpoint your organizing
principle, polish your narrative arc, evaluate your evidence, and
much more. Using what this workbook calls “book questions and
chapter answers,” you’ll figure out how to thread your book’s
main ideas through its chapters. Then, you’ll assemble an
argument, and finally, you’ll draft any remaining material and
revise the manuscript. And most important, by the time you complete
the workbook, you’ll have confidence that your book works as a
book—that it’s a cohesive, focused manuscript that tells the
story you want to tell. Â Indispensible to anyone with an
academic manuscript in progress, the prompts, examples, checklists,
and activities will give you confidence about all aspects of your
project—that it is structurally sound, coherent, free of the
hallmarks of “dissertationese," and ready for submission to an
academic publisher. Â
