It should come as no surprise that Van Morrison has made an album inspired by skiffle. Van Morrison's love of skiffle dates back to his childhood. He would hang out at the famed Belfast record store Atlantic Records, where he'd hear early 20th century folk, blues and jazz from the likes of Lead Belly and Jelly Roll Morton.
'Moving On Skiffle' finds him taking a homemade style that exploded across Britain in the mid-1950s and infusing it with a level of sophistication and soulfulness that it didn't always possess the first time around. The 23-track album goes to the heart of the music Van Morrison has inhabited ever since he was six years old, hanging out in the smoky confines of Belfast's Atlantic Records.
It also contains songs that underline, in their messages on the importance of freedom and living on your own terms, his lifetime philosophy.

Paul Ziller directs this disaster movie following the havoc wreaked
by a giant root system that grows at an exponential rate and tears
through everything in its path. A pair of environmentalists, Kate
(Luisa D'Oliveira) and Joe (Jesse Moss), are among the first to
encounter the bizarre phenomenon of the root, but so great is the
damage it causes that it is soon a matter of widespread concern.
Government agent Jack Taylor (Adrian Pasdar) is one of those tasked
with finding a way to contain the problem and seeks out plant
expert Jocelyn Snow (Stefanie von Pfetten) for her advice. There
are a range of theories on what may lie behind the dangerous plant
system, but Jocelyn is convinced that the seed engineering of Frame
Marcos (James Morrison) is at the heart of it.
In the last decade there has been heightened clinical and
investigative activity in the area of family violence. This, of
course, is partly attributable to recent surveys showing a high
incidence of family violence in the United States. For example,
there are indications that nearly 30% of married women in this
country are victims of physical abuse by spouses at some point in
their marriage. Further, FBI statistics show that approximately 13%
of all homicides are husband-wife killings. Moreover, it has been
projected that such figures are likely to increase over the next
several years. Consistent with these trends, funding of family
violence research by both federal and private agencies has
increased. Indeed, federal agencies, such as the National Institute
of Mental Health and the National Institute of Law Enforcement and
Criminal Justice, have provided considerable support for work in
this area. In addition, family violence, particu larly
wifebattering, child abuse, and sexual abuse of children has been
the focus of media attention at the national level, and has
generated intensive interest in both lay and profes sional
publications. Moreover, there have been several recent governmental
hearings and investigations regarding the prevalence of these
problems."
Lit Up Inside contains the lyrics of about one third of the songs
that Van Morrison has written over his 50 year career. In this
representative selection from the work of one of the most
innovative and enduring songwriters of the last century, the reader
will find examples of all the features of the world that Van has
created through his work: the back streets and mystic avenues;
memories of childhood wonder and of adult work; the chime of church
bells and the playing of the radio; the generous naming of other
artists and the joy of solitude; love and sharp dealing;
consolation and grace.
In the Age of Democratic Revolution, countries on both sides of the
Atlantic were linked together through trade networks, diplomatic
ties, and social interactions. More importantly, however, they also
shared a common revolutionary dynamic that oscillated back and
forth across the ocean. Revolutionary Currents explores the global
crosscurrents and revolutionary ideologies that inspired four great
modern revolutions England's Glorious Revolution of 1688-89, the
American Revolution of 1776, the French Revolution in 1789, and the
Mexican Revolution in the early 1800s. Michael A. Morrison and
Melinda S. Zook bring together noted historians to look at how each
nation reshaped these revolutionary traditions, making them their
own, and exported them once again. In examining each event, the
contributors respond to the historiographical trends of
revolutionary ideology, transatlantic cross-fertilzation of ideas,
and nation-building. In assessing and analyzing the ideas,
traditions, and nationalisms that inspired revolution and
nation-building in the modern world, this book breaks new ground in
the area of transatlantic history."

'This mix of genuine humility and hard-won hubris, of mysticism and
technical mastery ... makes Van Morrison quite simply, and quite
indisputably, "The Bard of Belfast".' Paul Muldoon If I ventured in
the slipstream Between the viaducts of your dreams Keep 'Er Lit is
the second volume of Van Morrison's collected lyrics containing one
hundred and twenty songs from across his storied career. It
contains love songs, work songs, songs about the pains and
anxieties of existence, songs of consolation, songs about various
kinds of spiritual quest and the realms of the mystical, and songs
which deal with healing and reconciliation, both with the self and
with others. Then there are the songs of memory and of childhood;
songs about the natural world and about the perspectives it can
provide on time. Taken together with Lit Up Inside, this volume
gives an overview of his fifty-year career, revealing why he is
celebrated as one of the most innovative and enduring songwriters
of our time.

Africans to Spanish America expands the diaspora framework to
include Mexico, Peru, Ecuador, and Cuba, exploring the connections
and disjunctures between colonial Latin America and the African
diaspora in the Spanish empires. Analysis of the regions of Mexico
and the Andes opens up new questions of community formation that
incorporated Spanish legal strategies in secular and ecclesiastical
institutions as well as articulations of multiple African
identities. The volume is arranged around three sub-themes:
identity construction in the Americas; the struggle by enslaved and
free people to present themselves as civilized, Christian, and
resistant to slavery; and issues of cultural exclusion and
inclusion. Contributors are Joan Cameron Bristol, Nancy E. van
Deusen, Leo Garafalo, Herbert S. Klein, Charles Beatty Medina,
Karen Y. Morrison, Rachel Sarah O'Toole, Frank "Trey" Proctor, and
Michele B. Reid.
A selection of sixties rock hits from the likes of The Kinks, Van
