Welcome to the 3rd International Conference on Wired/Wireless Internet C- munications (WWIC). After a successful start in Las Vegas and a selective c- ference in Germany, this year s WWIC demonstrated the event s maturity. The conference was supported by several sponsors, both international and local, and became the o?cial venue for COST Action 290. That said, WWIC has now been established as a top-quality conference to promote research on the convergence of wired and wireless networks. This year we received 117 submissions, which allowed us to organize an - citing program with excellent research results, but required more e?ort from the 54 members of the international Program Committee and the 51 additional reviewers. For each of the 117 submitted papers we asked three independent - viewers to provide their evaluation. Based on an online ballot phase and a TPC meeting organized in Colmar (France), we selected 34 high-quality papers for presentation at the conference. Thus, the acceptance rate for this year was 29%."

TheInternationalConferenceonWired/WirelessInternetCommunications(WWIC)was held for the second time, following a successful start in 2002, in LasVegas. The goal of theconferencewastopresenthigh-qualityresultsinthe?eld, andtoprovideaframework for research collaboration through focused discussions that designated future research efforts and directions. The number and the quality of submissions indicate that we are well on the way to establishing WWIC as a major event in the ?eld of wired/wireless internet communications. We received around 60 competitive submissions from Europe, North America, the Middle East and the Far East. Each submission was reviewed by at least two experts, although the majority received three or more reviews. Based on this rigorous reviewing procedure, the International Program Committee selected 26 submissions for presen- tion and publication in the proceedings. Therefore, we should all expect the quality of a selective conference in this volume. We hope you will enjoy it. The papers selected for presentation at WWIC 2004 were stimulating and of utmost interest. They were organized into eight sessions: 1. Protocol engineering and energy ef?ciency in wireless networks 2. Mobility management and mobile devices 3. Transport layer and congestion control 4. Architecture, implementation and experimentation 5. Network and protocol modeling 6. Wireless network scheduling and analysis 7. Multimedia distribution and group communication 8. Service discovery. This book constitutes the proceedings of the 9th IFIP TC 6 International Conference on Wired/Wireless Internet Communications, WWIC 2011, held in Vilanova i la Geltru, Spain, in June 2011. The 26 contributions included were carefully reviewed and selected from 50 submissions. In addition the book contains 15 invited papers. The contributions are structured in topical sections on mobility and LTE networks; performance and simulation analysis; adaptive approaches to guarantee E2E network services; energy efficiency and cooperation in wireless networks; transmission and management; quality through routing, naming and control; wireless multi-hop communications challenges in the future internet; and emerging contributions.
