Horde," by Victor Rousseau; "Tank," by Murray Leinster; "The Cave
of Horror," by Captain S.P. Meek; and many others.
Victor Rousseau - The Beetle Horde and other stories An expedition
charged with locating the south pole with precision comes upon
marvels. Aviator Tommy Travers and scientist Jim Dodd find evidence
of man-sized beetles near the pole. Then, their plane is sucked
into a vortex and drawn inside the Earth...Bullets, shrapnel, shell
- nothing can stop the trillions of famished, man-sized beetles
which, led by a madman, sweep down over the human race.
The Anthology of Sci-Fi V14 is a collection of seven the past
century. Included are: The Soul-Snatcher By Tom Curry, Giants of
the Ray By Tom Curry, From An Amber Block By Tom Curry, The Lord of
Space By Victor Rousseau, Hell's Dimension By Tom Curry, The Moon
Destroyers By Monroe K. Ruch, Spacewrecked on Venus By Neil R.
Jones.
While exploring near the South Pole Tommy Travers and James Dodd,
of the Travers Antarctic Expedition, crash in their plane and are
seized by a swarm of man-sized beetles. They are carried down to
Submundia, a world under the earth's crust, where the beetles have
developed their civilization to an amazing point, using a wretched
race of degenerated humans, whom they breed as cattle, for food.
The insect horde is ruled by a human whose fiendish mind now plans
to lead his unconquerable horde of monster insects forth to ravage
the world, destroy the human race and establish a new era-the era
of the insect.
