In the current period of globalization, Governing Interests
presents new research on the impact of internationalization on the
organization and representation of business interests through trade
and employer associations. By exploring ongoing, gradual, but
nevertheless profound changes in the structures and functions of
business interest associations, the book develops a precise
understanding of the relationship between the national and the
international. Both conceptual and empirical, some papers included
in this significant volume adopt a 'bird's eye view' of the topic,
whilst others concentrate on individual industries or countries,
and several, through examination and analysis, consider the effects
on interest representation and the repercussions on effective
governance. Contributed to and edited by leading academics, the
diversity of research questions and methods used in this volume
provide the reader with an excellent understanding of the subject
and, importantly, caution against rash simplifications.
Comprehensive and scholarly, this text will be of particular
relevance to political scientists and sociologists.

This book presents a state-of-the art collection of original
contributions on democracy, addressing three related themes: the
complexity of modern democracies and their structural diversity;
coping strategies of democracies in times of crises; and current
and potential trajectories and transformations of democracy. The
first part of the book maps the democratic landscape by revealing
the diversity of democratic political systems, through either
comparative analysis or case studies on the specific nature of
political and administrative systems in interest intermediation and
identity construction. The second part presents articles that
investigate the response of democracies to times of crisis, with an
emphasis on political economies and policy processes within the
European Union. The third part offers studies on democracies that
explore their adaptive potential in the context of globalization
and in that of broader technical, institutional or cultural
changes.

The book examines the conditions for successful high-technology
policy from theoretical and empirical perspectives. It enhances the
predominant national systems of innovation approach to innovation
policy with concepts based on new developments in the governance of
complex systems and processes. The conceptual framework of complex
networks and systems is used to examine national policy approaches
in countries that have created environments conducive to
high-technology industries as well as individual high-technology
sectors, such as biotechnology, alternative energy, and aerospace.
Theoretical and empirical contributions are synthesised into
lessons for high-tech policy and further research.

empirischen Anwendungsstudien, in denen politisch relevante
Strukturen auf unterschiedlichen Ebenen und in verschiedenen
Kontexten aus einer Netzwerkperspektive analysiert werden. Neben
Umsetzung in visone.
The current work aims at developing a prototype application model
for providing archaeological/historical information of
cultural-heritage sites like Didyma. The useful information (2D
thematic maps, text, images, graphics, audio along with 3D virtual
reconstruction models) of the temple was prepared from exiting raw
historical data (maps, aerial image as well as other ancillary
information) mainly using common GIS functionalities of ESRI
products (ArcMap, ArcPad) and VRML. The visitors equipped with a
small handheld computer (PDA), GPS and a display unit (see-through
or head-mounted display) would be able to navigate and experience
the real site while appreciating the useful historical information
as well as visualization of 3D virtual reconstruction onto the
natural field of view of a certain point/region of interest of the
temple site. The present work provides host of new insights/ideas
for making the ancient sites more attractive for tourists by
utilizing the advanced/innovative technologies of outdoor Augmented
Reality, GIS, 3D Visualization, Real Time Navigation using GPS,
Mobile Computing, and Multi-modal interactions instead of
rebuilding the historical remains.
This volume reviews current debates on the role of business in
politics and it assesses emerging methodological approaches to its
study. The book brings together leading scholars to assess various
qualitative and quantitative methods, network analysis, historical
context and positive rational choice modeling, and detailed
research case studies in the study of Business-Government
relations. Businesses have developed an increasingly sophisticated
appreciation of the policy process, as well as an ability to
develop complex strategies to influence it over the last 30 years.

methods, network analysis, historical context and positive rational
choice modeling, and detailed research case studies. There is
coverage of the environment in which business operates, including
state, regional and international institutional frameworks. The
internal organizational structure of business interests is
considered along with the range of strategies used to influence the
policy process. The book explores what policy-makers demand and
what business supplies to the policy process. The key role of the
firm as a political actor is emphasized, leading to a call for a
theoretically informed political economy of the firm. The editors:
