In Zurich at the 7th International Annual Meeting of the Society of Nuclear Hedicine in Europe, held in 1969, a group of young scientists from eleven countries dedicated some papers to the memory of Georg von Hevesy. The papers were published in a book entitled "Frontiers of Nuclear Medicine" (Springer-verlag Berlin, Heidelberg, New York). On the occasion of the Second International World Congress of Nuclear Medicine and Biology held in 1978 in Washington D.C., under the presidency of Henry N.Wagner,Jr., a group of young scientists again dedicated important papers from the Congress to the memory of Georg von Hevesy. This book consists of these papers, which present new results in the field of Nuclear Medicine reported by physicians, physicists, chemists, engineers, and computer scientists. The Georg von Hevesy Foundation of Nuclear Medicine in Zurich, Switzerland together with the president of the Second World Congress of Nuclear Medicine, Henry N.Wagner,Jr., have been the major forces in arranging publication of this book. The Georg von Hevesy Foundation is sponsoring the Hevesy Prize for Nuclear Medicine, the Hevesy Medal, and the Hevesy Memorial Lecture.

Diese Publikation bietet einen Uberblick uber die in jungster Zeit erbrachten Forschungen und Innovationen an der Fachhochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg. Sie zeigt die Breite der Forschung, aber auch, in welchen Profilbereichen sie Forschungsspitzen hervorgebracht hat.

Die Forschungsthemen spiegeln die Fachbereiche wider: Wirtschaftswissenschaften, Informatik sowie Elektrotechnik, Maschinenbau und Technikjournalismus am Campus Sankt Augustin; am Campus Rheinbach die Fachbereiche Wirtschaft und Angewandte Naturwissenschaften, am Campus Hennef der Fachbereich Sozialversicherung sowie das zentrale Institut fur Existenzgrundung und Mittelstandsforderung in Sankt Augustin.

Mit dem vorliegenden Band verabschiedet die Fachhochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg sich von ihrem langjahrigen Grundungsrektor Prof. Dr. Wulf Fischer. Dank seiner nachhaltigen Arbeit hat sich diese Hochschule weit uber die Region hinaus einen Namen gemacht. Neben der Lehre kommt der Forschung inzwischen ein grosser Stellenwert zu.

The computational theory of mind--the belief that the mind can be likened to a computer and that cognitive states possess the generative and compositional properties of natural languages--has proven enormously influential in recent philosophical studies of cognition. In this carefully argued critique, Steven Horst pronounces the theory deficient. He refutes its claims and assumptions, particularly the assertion that symbolic representations need not have conventional meaning. Horst goes on to sketch a new methodology for looking at the philosophy of psychology, one that provides a more fruitful way of comparing computational psychology with rival views emerging from connectionism and neuroscience. Original and comprehensive, his book is certain to provoke controversy and stimulate debate.

This volume contains the papers of a workshop on Jewish epigraphy in antiquity organized at Utrecht University in 1992. Among the participants were collaborators of the Cambridge Jewish Inscriptions Project and of the T]binger Atlas des Vorderen Orients project.
Important aspects of ancient Jewish inscriptions are highlighted in the papers, like the connection between documentary and literary texts. Several papers focus on aspects of the history of Jewish communities in the diaspora.
Specialists in Jewish epigraphy will find surveys of parts of the corpus of Jewish inscriptions (curse inscriptions, metrical epitaphs, alphabet-inscriptions) and discussions of some fixed opinions, and Jewish inscriptions are discussed in a wider literary and historical contexts as well.
