Technologies, such as artificial intelligence and augmented and
mixed reality, continue to be implemented to support the process of
teaching and learning. However, technological advances and new
applications should not be seen as a replacement for the requisite
consideration of proper needs analysis, instructional design, and
educational philosophy within courses or training; rather it should
serve as an enabler to allow faster and more open access to
learning for individuals. Educational Technology and the New World
of Persistent Learning provides innovative insights into technology
integration methods within classroom settings including how they
can empower students and how they can be used in the creation of
dynamic learning experiences. The content within this publication
examines e-learning, robotics, and tutoring systems and is designed
for academicians, educators, principles, administrators,
researchers, and students.
"This is a fascinating overview of the life and labors of one of
the America's most gifted evangelical theologians. Drawing deeply
from the wells of Reformation theology in the tradition of Calvin,
Bunyan, Owen, Edwards, and Bavinck, Roger Nicole has set forth a
compelling vision of theology as a discipline in the service of the
church. And he has done so with grace, wit, insight, passion, and
the kind of wisdom evangelicals need more of today. Though I never
took a class with Roger Nicole, I am certainly one of his students
and I commend this telling of his story to all who care about the
Bible's God, the church's faith, and the world's need for the
gospel of grace." -Dr. Timothy George, "Awesome for brain power,
learning and wisdom, endlessly patient and courteous in his gentle
geniality, and beloved by a multitude as pastor, mentor and friend,
veteran Reformed theologian Roger Nicole comes beautifully to life
in this warm-hearted biographical tribute. Thank you, David
Bailey." - Dr. James I. Packer
In this book, contributors focus on the reproductive behaviour of
insects. The topics they discuss range from mate finding, host
selection and oviposition behaviour to the competition for
resources and the behaviour of feeding larvae. The papers reflect
both a diversity of approach and differing degrees of conviction as
to the relevance of evolutionary theory to the study of insect
population. The aim of the book is to encourage the reader to think
more critically about the evolution of behaviour, and in particular
about the importance of small differences in individual behaviour
within natural populations.
This book considers research on insect acoustic behaviour from two
divergent approaches to insect behaviour. The first approach
involves the current rediscovery of sexual selection and involves
the testing of many hypotheses concerning the relative importance
of different behavioural strategies to the fitness of the
individual. The other approach considers the role of specific
neurones within the insect's auditory system. This book aims to
integrate these aspects of evolutionary biology and
neurophysiology. The book discusses the role of sound in the life
and life-cycle of insects and includes a discussion of mate
recognition, chorusing, calling and listening.
This title provides articles on the technical, organizational and
policy aspects of library automation, emphasizing the
information/policy needed by librarians for informed decisions on
automated systems and network services, to maximize the positive
effects of these technologies on library organizations.
The period from 6500 to 2500 BC was one of the most dynamic eras of
the prehistory of south-eastern Europe, for it saw many fundamental
changes in the ways in which people lived their lives. This
up-to-date and authoritative synthesis both describes the best
excavated relevant Balkan sites and interprets long-term trends in
the central themes of settlement, burial, material culture and
economy. Prominence is given to the ways people organized
themselves, the houses and landscapes where they lived and the
objects, plants and animals that they kept. The key developments
are seen as the creation of new social environments through the
construction of houses and villages, and a new materiality of life
which filled the built environment with a wide variety of objects.
Against the prevailing trends in European prehistory, the author
argues for a prehistoric past riven with tension and conflict,
where hoarding and exclusion of people was just as frequent as
sharing and helping. "Balkan Prehistory" provides a much-needed
guide to a period which has previously been inaccessible to western
scholars.;It should be a useful resource for undergraduates,
advanced students and scholars.
Douglass Bailey's volume fills the huge gap that existed for a
comprehensive synthesis, in English, of the archaeology of the
Balkans between 6,500 and 2,000 BC; much research on the prehistory
of Eastern Europe was inaccessible to a western audience before
now, because of linguistic barriers.
Bailey argues against traditional interpretations of the period,
which focus on the origins of agriculture and animal breeding. He
demonstrates that this was a period when monumental social and
material changes occurred in the lives of the people in this
region, with new technologies and ways of displaying
identity.
Balkan Prehistory will be required reading for everyone studying
the Neolithic, Copper and early Bronze Ages of Eastern Europe.
Near-Death Experiences (NDEs) are a mystifying state of
consciousness. The incredible experiences reported by survivors of
NDEs, such as out-of-body travel and soul-transforming peace are
stimulating interdisciplinary research in several fields, from the
medical to the mystical. "The Near Death Experience: A Reader" is
the most comprehensive collection of NDE cases and interpretations
ever assembled.
Edited by Lee W. Bailey and Jenny Yates, this book encompasses a
broad range of disciplines. Psychological researchers discuss
cognitive models and Jungian theories of meaningful archetypal
phenomena such as enlightenment and healing transformation. From
the biological perspective, "The Near Death Experience: A Reader"
describes how brains near death may produce soothing endorphins,
optical illusions, and convincing hallucinations. Philosophers
present empirical analyses and images in archetypal theories, and
the symbolic language of comparative phenomenological theories.
Christian, Jewish and Mormon responses to NDEs outline the
religious perspective, and through discussion of the Native
American Black Elk's NDE and the classic"Tibetan Book of the Dead,"
the mystical and spiritual interpretations of NDEs are also
explored.

Images of English was the first book to focus exclusively on
opinions about the language as they have evolved through time.
Through the use of abundant quotations, Richard Bailey lets voices
from the past speak to our present assumptions and challenges the
notion of English triumphalism throughout the world and the ages.
The book offers a unique historical perspective on attitudes
towards the language. We see that journalists who fill anxious
columns on slow news-days with fulminations on linguistic
deterioration are embellishing centuries of complaint; that women
who campaign for a language free of patriarchy and suited to
themselves express a yearning first conveyed long ago; that
teachers who recommend the vigour of Anglo-Saxon words are
sustaining an idea that emerged four hundred years ago in notions
about racial purity.
