Often regarded as Shakespeare's most complex and difficult play
Hamlet is also one of his most popular. It has been performed
countless times on the stage and has been produced in many film and
television versions. Even those who have never read the complete
play or seen a performance know a few lines of "To be or not to be"
and the image of a young man contemplating the skull of his dead
friend Yorick. The play continues to attract the attention of high
school students and scholars alike and has generated a tremendous
amount of criticism. Because Hamlet exists as text, performance,
and cultural icon, only through a study of the play in these three
different dimensions can Shakespeare's complex work be appreciated.
The purpose of this reference book is to introduce students and
others first approaching Hamlet to the traditions of scholarship,
criticism, and performance that it has inspired in four centuries.
The volume gives close attention to the textual history of the play
and to the historical, cultural, and intellectual contexts in which
it emerged. Special attention is given to the religious,
philosophical, and psychological aspects of the text. The book also
treats Shakespeare's language, imagery, themes, and dramatic art,
and it offers a summary of the play's critical reception.
Throughout an attempt is made to visualize the play in performance,
and constant reference is made to the conventions of staging in
Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.

This volume is intended to serve as a review of the "next
generation" of political economy scholars in what can be called the
"Wagnerian" tradition, which traces its roots to Buchanan and De
Viti De Marco in the 1930s, who argued that any decision that
results from a political entity must be the product of individual
decision makers operating within some framework of formal and
informal rules. To treat these decisions as if they were the
product of one single mind, or even simply the additive result of
several decisions, is to fundamentally misunderstand and
mischaracterize the dynamics of collective action. Today, Richard
Wagner is among the most prominent theorists in analyzing the
institutional foundations of the economy and the organization of
political decision-making. In this collection of original essays,
former students schooled in this tradition offer emerging insights
on public choice theory, public finance, and political economy,
across a range of topics from voting behavior to entrepreneurship.
This unique guidebook presents a comprehensive analysis of the
new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the most significant
federal civil rights law in almost 30 years, and its impact on over
four million American businesses, state and local governments,
nonprofit associations, 87 percent of America's private sector
jobs, and 22.7 million working-age people with disabilities.
Written by two Washington-based experts on the new federal
mandate, the book relies on extensive interviews with federal
officials and the expert opinion of business leaders, leaders in
the disability community, and the authors of the legislation. Fersh
and Thomas provide a clear analysis of the final federal
regulations and their implications for businesses, nonprofit
associations, state and local governments, and managers and
employers who need to make modifications to physical barriers in
places of public accommodation, such as stores and restaurants, and
in barriers to equal employment in the workplace. The book uses
case histories and Congressional reports and testimony to
illustrate new employment procedures--from applications, testing,
and insurance benefits to job descriptions, reasonable
accommodation, and new rights in telecommunications and public
ground transportation. The social, legislative, and economic
history that led to the laW's enactment is illustrated through
photographs and 18 tables. Included are specific guidelines on how
to interview and work with people with disabilities, containing
specific sections on people who use wheelchairs, and people with
mental retardation, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, hearing and visual
impairments, AIDS, speech impairments, learning disabilities, and
mental illness. Also featured are how to sections for developing a
compliance plan, implementing reasonable accommodation, and how to
create an ADA awareness program for employees. The book explores
the successful use of workers with disabilities in companies over
the last twenty years, and the high costs of unemployment among
working-age people with disabilities in tax revenues and lost
productivity. Leaders and experts, such as I. King Jordan, Ph.D.,
president of Gallaudet University, provide short articles on their
perspective of the ADA.
Biomaterials science has advanced dramatically in the past 50
years with the increased cooperation between engineers chemists and
biologists. Whilst previously biomaterials may have been
erroneously thought to encompass dressing materials or implant
structures designed to replace damaged or diseased tissue, the
range of clinical applications of these materials is immense. Truly
"Smart" biomaterials, which have the ability to recognise, respond
to and even record their environment, now exist. The presentations
in this volume reflect the true inter-disciplinary nature of
biomaterials science; with contributions from polymer chemists,
engineers, biologists and clinicians. The presentations show the
potential of these collaborations and describe how advanced
biomaterials have and are being employed not only in theraputic
applications, but also increasingly in diagnosis and treatment in
medical science.

Land Use Law in Florida presents an in-depth analysis of land use
law common to many states across the United States, using Florida
cases and statutes as examples. Florida case law is an important
course of study for planners, as the state has its own legal
framework that governs how people may use land, with regulation
that has evolved to include state-directed urban and regional
planning. The book addresses issues in a case format, including
planning, land development regulation, property rights, real estate
development and land use, transportation, and environmental
regulation. Each chapter summarizes the rules that a reader should
draw from the cases, making it useful as a reference for practicing
professionals and as a teaching tool for planning students who do
not have experience in reading law. This text is invaluable for
attorneys; professional planners; environmental, property rights,
and neighborhood activists; and local government employees who need
to understand the rules that govern how property owners may use
land in Florida and around the country.
