Lymphography is an established procedure in the diagnosis of malignant disease. Major scientific meetings, numerous publications and several post graduate courses on this subject have been presented during the past ten years. However, perusal of the literature will convince any critical reader of the need for a comprehensive presentation of lymphography in cancer. Funda mental knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system, pharmacology of the contrast media, possible complications and in particular understanding of the clinical behaviour of malignant tumors place high demands on the physician. For this reason the personal experience of five authors and the most important data published in the literature have been compiled in this volume. It should give the reader up to date information on the indications for clinical lymphography and its interpretation, thereby de monstrating the limits of its diagnostic accuracy and stressing the great impor tance of the method for the evaluation of cancer patients. It has been a fortunate circumstance to draw on the experience of four distinguished contributors whose cooperation has enabled this attempt at a thorough coverage of clinical lymphography in cancer."

MRI has opened up new possibilities in combined morphological and functional imaging, and now there is a book which discusses both aspects together. Two systems which already demonstrate the advantages of MRI are presented. In the cardiovascular system, motion and flow can be imaged so that even flow velocities in the deep vessels of the body can be measured, and turbulences can be identified. In the study of the kidneys, a combination of renally excreted contrast media and imaging provides within seconds insight into glomerular filtration in health and disease. These current possibilities, and their limitations, bring insight into the future potential of MRI.

Die Rontgendiagnostik des Herzens und der GefiiBe hat - in erster Linie infolge des Aufschwunges der Herz-und GefiiBchirurgie - in den letzten 20 Jahren an Bedeutung auBerordentlich gewonnen. Die Ausbildung neuer und die Verfeinerung bereits fruher bekannter Untersuchungsmethoden haben die diagnostischen Moglichkeiten in einem kaum geahnten MaBe erweitert, so daB der heutige Umfang des StofGBPes eine Dreiteilung des Bandes erforderlich machte, in dem die Rontgendiagnostik des Herzens und der GefiiBe handbuchmiiBig bearbeitet ist. Der dritte Teil dieses Bandes liegt nunmehr vor. Er umfaBt die Rontgendiagnostik der GefiiBe des kleinen Kreislaufs, der AbdominalgefiiBe (Aorta abdominalis und ihrer groBen Aste, Pfortadergebiet und Vena cava inferior), auBerdem die peripheren Arterien und Venen und schlieBIich die GehirngefiiBe und das Versorgungsgebiet der A. carotis externa. Wenn - dem Prinzip dieses Handbuches entsprechend - jeder Teilband in sich abgeschlossen sein solI, dann sind gewisse Uberschneidungen mit anderen Biinden un- vermeidbar. So wird natiirlich gerade die Gehirnangiographie im Rahmen der Neuro- radiologie eingehend abgehandelt; sie durfte trotzdem auch in diesem Teilband nicht fehlen. Ahnliche Uberschneidungen liegen aber auch bei anderen GefiiBbereichen in der Natur der Sache. So mussen, um nur noch ein Beispiel zu nennen, Kreislaufstorungen der Lunge sowohl hier als auch im Band uber die Lungendiagnostik besprochen werden. In dieser Tatsache sehen wir jedoch keinen Nachteil, eher vielIeicht sogar einen Vor- teil - vorausgesetzt, daB es gelingt, bei solchen Uberschneidungen die jeweilige Be- arbeitung dem Gesichtspunkt des betreGBPGBPenden Bandes oder Kapitels nach Art und Umfang anzugleichen.
