R1,352 Discovery Miles 13 520 Ships in 9 - 17 working days

Written by a team of international experts and emerging talents from around the world, Sport Injury Psychology: Cultural, Relational, Methodological, and Applied Considerations challenges the status quo of the field of sport injury psychology and opens new and exciting future research trajectories by critically considering: How to evolve from an individual focused and single, scientific discipline into a cultural and relational focused and interdisciplinary discourse How to shift from the dominant positivist foundation towards a more inclusive scholarship with divergent epistemologies, theories, and methodologies How to replace the attempt to establish 'best practice' and desire for 'clean' findings with the need for continuous innovation and multifaceted applied experiences Each chapter stimulates debate and encourages theoretical, methodological, and/or applied diversification, and closes with future research directions that provide novel and rigorous programs of research that have the potential to advance the field of sport injury psychology into an interdisciplinary discourse that strives for and embraces collaboration between academic disciplines and with practitioners working in the field. Cutting edge, timely, and comprehensive, Sport Injury Psychology: Cultural, Relational, Methodological, and Applied Considerations is essential reading for undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and more established scholars in the fields of sport communication, sports medicine, sport psychology, sports sociology, and other related sport science disciplines.

Growth Following Adversity in Sport - A Mechanism to Positive Change (Hardcover): Ross Wadey, Melissa Day, Karen Howells Growth Following Adversity in Sport - A Mechanism to Positive Change (Hardcover)
Ross Wadey, Melissa Day, Karen Howells
R4,496 Discovery Miles 44 960 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Growth Following Adversity in Sport: A Mechanism to Positive Change is the first text to carefully consider the positive changes that may follow adverse experiences in sport at micro (e.g., individual), meso (e.g., dyadic, team), and macro levels (e.g., organizational, cultural). While remaining respectful of the despair and distress that can follow adversity, this comprehensive text aims to provide a narrative of hope to those who have experienced adversity in sport by showcasing the latestadvances in research on growth following adversity. This book covers topics as diverse as: conceptual, theoretical, and methodological considerations; cultural, organizational, and relational perspectives; population-specific insights (e.g., gender, disability, youth); and applied implications (e.g., evidence-based, practice-based). Written and edited by a team of international experts and emerging talents from around the world, each chapter considers the nature and meaning of growth, contains a comprehensive review of empirical research or reflections from professional practice, and offers exciting, novel, and rigorous suggestions for future programs of research that aim to promote positive change in sport to support the safety, wellbeing, and welfare of the people who take part (e.g., athletes, coaches, paid employees, volunteers). Cutting-edge, timely, and comprehensive, Growth Following Adversity in Sport: A Mechanism to Positive Change is essential reading for postgraduate students and scholars in the fields of sport psychology, injury and rehabilitation, sport theory and other related sport science disciplines.

Nonlinear Electrodynamics in Biological Systems (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1984): Wadey Nonlinear Electrodynamics in Biological Systems (Paperback, Softcover reprint of the original 1st ed. 1984)

The past half century has seen an extraordinary growth in the fields of cellular and molecular biology. From simple morphologi cal concepts of cells as the essential units of living matter there has been an ever-sharper focus on functional organization of living systems, with emphasis on molecular dynamics. Thus, life forms have come to be defined increasingly in terms of metabolism, growth, reproduction and responses to environmental perturbations. Since these properties occur in varying degrees in systems below the level of cellular organization, there has been a blurring of older models that restricted the concepts of life to cellular systems. At the same time, a search has begun for elemental as pects of molecular and atomic behavior that might better define properties common to all life forms. This search has led to an examination of nonlinear behavior in biological macromolecules, whether in response to electrical or chemical stimulation, for example, or as a means of signaling along a molecular chain, or as a means of energy transfer. Experimental knowledge in this area has grown rapidly in the past decade, and in some respects has outstripped theoretical models adequate to ex plain these new observations. Nevertheless, it can be claimed that there is now an impressive body of experiments implicating non linear, nonequilibrium processes as fundamental steps in sequential operations of biological systems."

They invite her to their home, the mysterious Northanger Abbey, but, so engrossed in the books she reads, Catherine is certain the Abbey will be full of intrigue which leads her to imagine a fantastical story about the death of Henry's mother. After revealing her thoughts to Henry, Catherine fears she may have lost his affections forever.

Triple bill of television adaptations based on novels by Jane Austen. In 'Mansfield Park' (2007), at 10, Fanny Price (Billie Piper) goes to live at Mansfield Park, the estate of her aunt's husband, Sir Thomas (Douglas Hodge). Clever, studious, and a writer with an ironic imagination and fine moral compass, Fanny becomes especially close to her cousin Edmund (Blake Ritson), Thomas's younger son. Fanny is soon possessed of beauty as well as a keen mind and comes to the attention of a neighbour, Henry Crawford (Joseph Beattie). Sir Thomas promotes this match, but to his displeasure, Fanny has a mind of her own, asking Henry to prove himself worthy. In 'Northanger Abbey' (2007), Catherine Moreland (Felicity Jones), a spirited young beauty from the country, enters into the depraved society of Bath with dreams and fantasies sparked by her love of gothic romance novels. There she meets two men vying for her affection - the dashing and jealous John Thorpe (William Beck) and the gentle and sincere Henry Tilney (J.J. Field). Despite the advice of her mischievous new friend Isabella (Carey Mulligan), Catherine treats neither as more than a dear friend. That is until Catherine accepts an invitation to Northanger Abbey from Henry's grave and severe father, General Tilney (Liam Cunningham). In 'Emma' (1997), Kate Beckinsale stars as the eponymous heroine who is intent on finding partners for everyone - but only if she thinks they are the right coupling. Her efforts create confusion, and the outspoken Mr Knightly pours scorn on her matchmaking - although he may have ulterior motives for doing so.
