This title was first published in 2000. Drawing upon fieldwork
conducted with Amnesty International, the Labour Party, Tenants'
Associations and the Exodus collective, this work examines the
nature of political activism. The author combines Habermasian
theory and empirical fieldwork to critically analyze the nature of
the political public sphere. While adopting a Habermasian approach,
Clark recognizes the problems and limitations associated with
notions of civil society and communicative action. An empirically
formed critical stance is maintained throughout the work. Three
main themes are drawn from this research: an analysis of structures
of political participation; presentation of a typology of political
activism ; analysis of the public process of participation.
Essential reading for those studying public participation and its
relationship to activism, as well as for students of politics,
public policy and sociology.

This title covers all aspects of the law of mortgages, including
what mortgages and charges are, parties to mortgages, void or
imperfect securities, transfer and devolution of mortgages,
mortgagee's remedies, priorities of mortgages, incidence of the
mortgage debt, discharge of the mortgage, accounts and costs. The
fifteenth edition has been fully updated to reflect new
legislation, cases, regulatory material and other developments.
This book reflects the author’s fifty years’ experience in
international construction projects and the management and
resolution of disputes. During those fifty years, Wayne Clark’s
aim has always been to guide parties towards sensible and clear
communication, nurturing relationships and seeking early solutions
to their differences. His primary goal is to help parties avoid
unnecessary conflict – a theme that is clearly evident throughout
this book. While two chapters are devoted to preparing construction
claims to persuade a tribunal – and in so doing persuade the
other side to reach an amicable settlement – the book covers a
much wider scope: from the building owner’s dream through to the
contractor handing over the completed project, wise contract
administration, settlement negotiations, the third-party resolution
process and, finally, arbitration. During each of these stages, the
theme is for the parties to continually seek ways to resolve their
differences. The book also introduces the idea of the ‘shadow
arbitrator’, who, if commissioned early in the dispute process,
can guide parties and legal counsel to prepare claims and arbitral
pleadings that will persuade a tribunal – and encourage the
parties to find sensible solutions.
Life now without access to electronic telecommunications would be
regarded as highly unsatisfactory by most of the UK population.
Such ready access would not have been achieved without methodical
and ultimately enforceable means of access to the land on which to
install the infrastructure necessary to support the development of
an electronic communications network. Successive governments have
made such access a priority, regarding it as a principle that no
person should unreasonably be denied access to an electronic
communications network or electronic communications services. The
enactment of the Telecommunications Act 1984 and its revision by
the Communications Act in 2003 have played their role in the
provision of an extensive electronic infrastructure in the UK,
while their reshaping by means of the Digital Economy Act 2017 will
continue that process. Throughout that process, a little publicised
series of struggles has taken place between telecommunications
operators and landowners, as they seek to interpret the Electronic
Communications Code by which their rights and obligations have been
regulated. This book describes the problems that accompanied the
Old Code (which will continue to regulate existing installations
and agreements); and the intended solutions under the New Code. The
eminent team of authors explain the background, provisions and
operation of the old code and the new one, providing practical and
jargon-free guidance throughout. It is sure to become the reference
on this topic and is intended as a guide for telecommunications
operators, land owners, and of course for their advisers in the
legal and surveying professions. All members of Falcon Chambers,
comprising nine Queen's Counsel and 30 junior barristers,
specialise in property law and allied topics, including the various
incarnations of the Electronic Communications Code. Members of
Falcon Chambers, including all the authors of this new work, have
for many years lectured and written widely on the code, and have
appeared (acting for both operators and landowners) in many of the
few reported cases on the subject of the interface between property
law and the code, including for example: Geo Networks Ltd v The
Bridgewater Canal Co. Ltd (2010); Geo Networks Ltd v The
Bridgewater Canal Co. Ltd (2011); Crest Nicholson (Operations) Ltd
v Arqiva Services Ltd (2015); Brophy v Vodafone Ltd (2017).

gives the practitioner a detailed insight into this area. Covering
all aspects of the subject, it has been fully updated to take
account of the changes in the law since the last edition was

the Companies Act 2006 (Amendment of Part 25) Regulations 2013, as
well as numerous case law developments.

A Web photo of a dominatrix sends a man on a last-ditch attempt to
feel truly alive one more time, even if it kills him. ..". a
stylish piece of literary fiction... intellectually engaging
throughout. A finely drawn portrait of desire in its fall and
winter seasons." - BlueInk Review ..".All in all, this is a
delectable novel about a man exploring his unknown sexual fantasies
at the price of possibly losing his true self along the way."- Red
City Review Growing numb to life, to his on-and-off girlfriend of
many years, his career, even Scotch, a man turns fifty. He is a
translator who can no longer dream of translating beautiful works
of fiction. He is an amateur musician who can no longer dream of
expressing his life on a higher plane, without words. As he glares
inside himself he sees little but his declining sexuality, his
crumbling hold on life, a growing list of failed relationships, and
a darkening well of loneliness. Stumbling upon an image on the
Internet one night, he suddenly hears cell doors sliding open. He
stares at a young woman, in profile, beautiful, unblinking, regal.
Instinctively he knows that by lingering on that image he will
shatter a relationship that has kept him on the sane side of
loneliness as surely as if he stepped in front of a speeding
eighteen-wheeler. But desperate to feel alive again before time
runs out, he knows he must see the stranger behind the pixels on
his laptop screen. Although it is her image that first transfixes
him, his eye afterwards chances on a handful of words on the
Internet page. She is a dominatrix. The word triggers something
inside him, blows the dust off fantasies trickling back to
adolescence, and slowly begins to re-choreograph his decades of
sexual memories. Was he ever really the dominant male he thought he
was? Did he have a sexual alter-ego? Was this the last card he had
to play in life? The face on the screen held the answer. He would
find out even if it killed him."
