This book presents a comparative study of the land settlements and
sovereign arrangements between the US government and the three
major aggregated groups of indigenous peoples-American Indians,
Native Alaskans, and Native Hawaiians-whose land rights claims have
resulted in very different outcomes. It shows that the outcomes of
their sovereign claims were different, though their bases were
similar. While the US government insists that it is committed to
the government-to-government relationship it has with the tribes,
federal authority severely limits the ability of tribal governments
to participate as an equal partner.

Pure God addresses areas where Christians and non-Christians
often have uncertain beliefs. If left unattended, such beliefs
become stumbling blocks for unbelievers and create doubt and
confusion in the minds of believers.
The subject matter delves into controversial areas of eternal
security, the deity of Jesus, the Holy Trinity, baptism in the Holy
Spirit, speaking in tongues, and prophesying. Pure God provides
insight-found in no other book-about the origin of the people of
Nod and the identity of the Nephilim. Moreover, readers learn what
the Bible teaches about faith, sin, salvation, evil, death, and the
end times.
Pure God is more than a simple question-and-answer book. Ensuing
topics, appurtenant passages of scripture, and true-to-life
illustrations progressively unravel the mystery of God. Each
chapter draws the reader closer to the Lord Jesus Christ. Readers
experience God's irresistible love and discover what it means to be
a Christian.

Religion off the Mentally III Psychiatrists Have Been Astute to
observe that patients often "use" religion as a self-concealment
device. Yet, on the other hand, theologians have always been
concerned about the self-revelatory character of religious
experience. The depth psychotherapists have made one of the most
trenchant criticisms of religion by empirically describing the
various concealment and defense devices whereby the sick person
defends himself from reality. As Karl Menninger puts it, "From the
standpoint of the psychiatrist a religion which merely ministers to
the unconscious repudiation of reality . . . cannot be regarded as
anything other than a neurotic or psychotic system." 1 He observes
that religion may mean different things to different people; ." . .
psychological mechanisms determine what type of religion will
satisfy a particular individual." 2 Flugel, in addition, says that
ever since Adam and Eve, mankind has "endeavored to escape the
consequences of their guilt by projecting upon one another." 8 The
utterances of Jesus, however, even more trenchantly criticize
popular religion. For instance, he said: i Karl Menninger, The
Human Mind (New York: Alfred A. Knopf, Inc., 1947), p. 466. Woe to
you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites 1 for you tithe mint and
dill and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the
law, justice and mercy and faith; these you ought to have done,
without neglecting the others. You blind guides, stra...

Wayne Oates, one of America's leading pastoral counselors, draws
on psychological insights to describe in everyday language several
common personality disorders that make human interaction so
difficult. He examines the reasons why individuals develop as they
do and illuminates how personality disorders can result in
destructive relgious behavior. Proposing pastoral care approaches
that combine understanding with empathy and firmness, Oates
discusses how the resources of the Christian faith can unmask these
disorders so the real person can emerge. He concludes with a
sixfold agenda for the total ministry of the church to prevent,
affect, and deal with personality disorders.
