The corresponding-states principle helps the understanding and
calculating of thermodynamic, transport, and surface properties of
substances in various states, required by our modern lifestyle. The
Corresponding-States Principle and its Practice: Thermodynamic,
Transport and Surface Properties of Fluids describes the origins
and applications of the principle from a universal point of view
with comparisons to experimental data where possible. It uses the
universal theory to explain present theories. Emphasis is on the
properties of pure systems, and the corresponding-states theory can
also be extended to mixtures, which are treated as pure systems.
Furthermore, the author discusses current progress, and shows
technicians how to derive practical equations from molecular
modeling. The Corresponding-States Principle and its Practice:
Thermodynamic, Transport and Surface Properties of Fluids is the
ideal handbook for those in chemical science and engineering
related to energy, environment, natural gas, and petroleum.
This book provides a comprehensive overview of the emerging technologies for next-generation 5G mobile communications, with insights into the long-term future of 5G. Written by international leading experts on the subject, this contributed volume covers a wide range of technologies, research results, and networking methods. Key enabling technologies for 5G systems include, but are not limited to, millimeter-wave communications, massive MIMO technology and non-orthogonal multiple access. 5G will herald an even greater rise in the prominence of mobile access based upon both human-centric and machine-centric networks. Compared with existing 4G communications systems, unprecedented numbers of smart and heterogeneous wireless devices will be accessing future 5G mobile systems. As a result, a new paradigm shift is required to deal with challenges on explosively growing requirements in mobile data traffic volume (1000x), number of connected devices (10-100x), typical end-user data rate (10-100x), and device/network lifetime (10x). Achieving these ambitious goals calls for revolutionary candidate technologies in future 5G mobile systems. Designed for researchers and professionals involved with networks and communication systems, 5G Mobile Communications is a straightforward, easy-to-read analysis of the possibilities of 5G systems.
Metamaterials: Beyond Crystals, Noncrystals, and Quasicrystals is a comprehensive and updated research monograph that focuses on recent advances in metamaterials based on the effective medium theory in microwave frequencies. Most of these procedures were conducted in the State Key Laboratory of Millimeter Waves, Southeast University, China. The book conveys the essential concept of metamaterials from the microcosmic structure to the macroscopic electromagnetic properties and helps readers quickly obtain needed skills in creating new devices at microwave frequencies using metamaterials. The authors present the latest progress on metamaterials and transformation optics and provide abundant examples of metamaterial-based devices accompanied with detailed procedures to simulate, fabricate, and measure them. Comprised of ten chapters, the book comprehensively covers both the fundamentals and the applications of metamaterials. Along with an introduction to the subject, the first three chapters discuss effective medium theory and artificial particles. The next three chapters cover homogeneous metamaterials (super crystals), random metamaterials (super noncrystals), and inhomogeneous metamaterials (super quasicrystals). The final four chapters examine gradient-index inhomogeneous metamaterials, nearly isotropic inhomogeneous metamaterials, and anisotropic inhomogeneous metamaterials, after which the authors provide their conclusions and closing remarks. The book is completely self-contained, making it easy to follow.
Metamaterials, including their two-dimensional counterparts, are composed of subwavelength-scale artificial particles. These materials have novel electromagnetic properties, and can be artificially tailored for various applications. Based on metamaterials and metasurfaces, many abnormal physical phenomena have been realized, such as negative refraction, invisible cloaking, abnormal reflection and focusing, and many new functions and devices have been developed. The effective medium theory lays the foundation for design and application of metamaterials and metasurfaces, connecting metamaterials with real world applications. In this Element, the authors combine these essential ingredients, and aim to make this Element an access point to this field. To this end, they review classical theories for dielectric functions, effective medium theory, and effective parameter extraction of metamaterials, also introducing front edge technologies like metasurfaces with theories, methods, and potential applications. Energy densities are also included.

This SpringerBrief focuses mainly on the basic theory and applications of massive MIMO in 5G networks. The significance of massive MIMO for 5G or future communications is first briefly discussed. Then, the basic theory of massive MIMO technology is comprehensively analyzed, i.e., a variety of 5G scenarios and their improvements are described when massive MIMO is taken into account. Art physical-layer techniques and various networking techniques for interference mitigation and resource scheduling are introduced as well. This SpringerBrief also examines the selected applications of massive MIMO in 5G networks, i.e., massive MIMO-aided millimeter communications and energy transfer. The physical-layer design, multiple access control (MAC) mechanism and networking techniques are discussed for millimeter-wave communications aided by massive MIMO technology. Then, massive MIMO is covered for hybrid information and energy transfer. A downlink precoder and a uplink pilot scheme is proposed for single cell networks, and both non-cooperative and cooperative energy transfer in multi-cell are presented. Communication researchers in the area of MIMO technology, as well as researchers and practitioners working in millimeter communications and energy transfer seeking new research topics, and topic areas with communication system design, centralized and distributed algorithms, will find this brief useful as a reference. Advanced-level students studying communication engineering will also find this book useful as a secondary text.
This brief examines recent developments in the Heterogeneous Vehicular NETworks (HETVNETs), integrating cellular networks with Dedicated Short-Range Communication (DSRC) for meeting the communications requirements of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS)services.
