Proceedings of the14th European Microscopy Congress, held in
Aachen, Germany, 1-5 September 2008. Jointly organised by the
European Microscopy Society (EMS), the German Society for Electron
Microscopy (DGE) and the local microscopists from RWTH Aachen
University and the Research Centre Julich, the congress brings
together scientists from Europe and from all over the world. The
scientific programme covers all recent developments in the three
major areas of instrumentation and methods, materials science and
life science.

During the last decade we have been witness to several exciting
achievements in electron crystallography. This includes structural
and charge density studies on organic molecules complicated
inorganic and metallic materials in the amorphous, nano-, meso- and
quasi-crystalline state and also development of new software,
tailor-made for the special needs of electron crystallography.
Moreover, these developments have been accompanied by a now
available new generation of computer controlled electron
microscopes equipped with high-coherent field-emission sources,
cryo-specimen holders, ultra-fast CCD cameras, imaging plates,
energy filters and even correctors for electron optical
distortions. Thus, a fast and semi-automatic data acquisition from
small sample areas, similar to what we today know from imaging
plates diffraction systems in X-ray crystallography, can be
envisioned for the very near future. This progress clearly shows
that the contribution of electron crystallography is quite unique,
as it enables to reveal the intimate structure of samples with high
accuracy but on much smaller samples than have ever been
investigated by X-ray diffraction. As a tribute to these tremendous
recent achievements, this NATO Advanced Study Institute was devoted
to the novel approaches of electron crystallography for structure
determination of nanosized materials.

Accounting and Auditing Research, 10th Edition prepares students
and early-stage practitioners to use well-established research
solutions in a broad range of practical applications, from
financial accounting and tax planning, to investigating fraud and
auditing various business problems. Emphasizing real-world skills
development, this fully-updated textbook covers the current tools,
techniques, and best practices in applied professional research and
analysis. The authors provide comprehensive yet accessible coverage
of the entire research process, explaining how to utilize major
research databases and audit software packages in a clear and
systematic manner. The tenth edition features carefully revised
content designed to enhance effectiveness, increase readability,
and strengthen learning and retention. The book's classroom-proven
pedagogy features expert tips for performing common research tasks,
sidebar boxes that summarize and expand upon key concepts, and a
variety of end-of-chapter exercises that reinforce the material and
develop readers' skills.

An agent often does not have precise probabilities or utilities to
guide resolution of a decision problem. I advance a principle of
rationality for making decisions in such cases. To begin, I
represent the doxastic and conative state of an agent with a set of
pairs of a probability assignment and a utility assignment. Then I
support a decision principle that allows any act that maximizes
expected utility according to some pair of assignments in the set.
Assuming that computation of an option's expected utility uses
comprehensive possible outcomes that include the option's risk, no
consideration supports a stricter requirement.

Classical decision theory evaluates entire worlds, specified so as
to include everything a decision-maker cares about. Thus applying
decision theory requires performing computations far beyond an
ordinary decision-maker's ability. In this book Paul Weirich
explains how individuals can simplify and streamline their choices.
He shows how different 'parts' of options (intrinsic, temporal,
spatiotemporal, causal) are separable, so that we can know what
difference one part makes to the value of an option, regardless of
what happens in the other parts. He suggests that the primary value
of options is found in basic intrinsic attitudes towards outcomes:
desires, aversions, or indifferences. And using these two facts he
argues that we need only compare small parts of the options we face
in order to make a rational decision. This important book will
interest readers in decision theory, economics, and the behavioral
sciences.
Seeking religious freedom, settlers from Europe colonized the New
World starting in 1607. They enjoyed freedom and prosperity in
their new home until the Mother Country, England, started taking
their British liberties away. The colonists tried for years to
reconcile their difference with their king, to no avail. This is
their story through settlement and growth to conflict and war.
Inside you will learn of their trials and triumphs, and how they
founded the freest and most stable government in the world, using
biblical principles and relying on divine providence.
In March, 1985, Lamont Johnson moved his black American family from
Cleveland, Ohio for an executive position with AmSouth Bank
Corporation and a new home in the midst of the white's-only Alabama
community of Loving Hands. When the body of an exotic dancer is
found behind the Loving Hands Baptist Church, Lamont Johnson is
arrested for the murder. This story, inspired by actual events, is
told from the perspective of Emmett Hollister who has only recently
returned home after a stint in the Navy. Quickly things start
looking up for Emmett when he meets and falls in love with new
resident, Jane Fitzwater. As their love grows so do the problems in
the Loving Hands community resulting in the destruction of their
relationship and a scandalous revelation about some of the unloving
racist members of Loving Hands Baptist Church.
