Research Companion to Building Information Modeling (Hardcover): Weisheng Lu, Chimay J. Anumba Research Companion to Building Information Modeling (Hardcover)
Weisheng Lu, Chimay J. Anumba
R7,899 Discovery Miles 78 990 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Offering critical insights to the state-of-the-art in Building Information Modeling (BIM) research and development, this book outlines the prospects and challenges for the field in this era of digital revolution. Analysing the contributions of BIM across the construction industry, it provides a comprehensive survey of global BIM practices. Accessible and thorough, the chapters explore the theory behind and facilitators of BIM, covering knowledge management around BIM, the development of ontologies and language in the area, holistic implementations, and BIM ecosystems. The book further discusses the technological developments of BIM, including scan-to-BIM, 3D digital reconstruction and AI and robotics techniques. Critical analysis of BIM-enabled construction and engineering management innovations are also examined, highlighting prospects and challenges in the area. This will be a critical read for engineering, construction management and architecture students looking for a comprehensive study of BIM. It will also be beneficial to practitioners working in the Architecture, Engineering, Construction, Owner & Operation (AECOO) industry wanting a better understanding of the benefits and future developments of BIM.

BIM and Big Data for Construction Cost Management (Hardcover): Weisheng Lu, Chi Cheung Lai, Tung Tse BIM and Big Data for Construction Cost Management (Hardcover)
Weisheng Lu, Chi Cheung Lai, Tung Tse
R2,536 Discovery Miles 25 360 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book is designed to help practitioners and students in a wide range of construction project management professions to understand what building information modelling (BIM) and big data could mean for them and how they should prepare to work successfully on BIM-compliant projects and maintain their competencies in this essential and expanding area. In this book, the state-of-the-art information technologies that support high-profile BIM implementation are introduced, and case studies show how BIM has integrated core quantity surveying and cost management responsibilities and how big data can enable informed decision-making for cost control and cost planning. The authors' combined professional and academic experience demonstrates, with practical examples, the importance of using BIM and particularly the fusion of BIM and big data, to sharpen competitiveness in global and domestic markets. This book is a highly valuable guide for people in a wide range of construction project management and quantity surveying roles. In addition, implications for project management, facilities management, contract administration, and dispute resolution are also explored through the case studies, making this book essential reading for built environment and engineering professionals.

A System for Assessing and Communicating Contractors' Competitiveness (Paperback): Weisheng Lu A System for Assessing and Communicating Contractors' Competitiveness (Paperback)
Weisheng Lu
R1,961 Discovery Miles 19 610 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Today's business environment for construction has been changed to one characterized as increasing globalization and intense competition. To improve competitiveness is like the law of the jungle for contractors to survive in the market and outperform their rivals. This need is particularly urgent for China, which provides one of the biggest construction markets in the world. Competitiveness is a powerful thinking which can lead a contractor to gaining competitive advantage. Nevertheless, it is a concept that is neither well understood nor easy to communicate to people, despite widespread acceptance of its importance. In this thesis, an IT system called the Contractor Competitiveness Assessment and Communication System (C-CACS) has been developed which enables contractors' competitiveness to be easily understood and communicated. The C-CACS can be applied in three typical construction activities: for contractors to self-diagnose their competitiveness, for administrative departments to rank contractors in order of competitiveness, and for clients to pre-qualify contractors that are bidding for a contract.
