Sorcerer is a book in the form of a script/novel/manual about the pleasures of being with others and of being alone. Three friends hang out and share a long and unremarkable conversation about getting dressed, headaches, ticks, compression fantasies, surgery, and their aspirations, among other things. The characters find contentment in each other’s company, conversing in the placid, eerie rhythms of a sitcom in which conflict never arises. When two of the friends go home for the night, the remaining one watches TV, dances, and takes apart his face in front of a giant mirror.

Upbeat drama in which a retired boxer turned school janitor helps a bullied child stand up to his tormentors. Dan Barnes (Steve Austin) is an ex-professional boxer who gave up the sport partly from fatigue and partly in search of a less violent way of life. When he begins working in the more sedate role of a high school janitor, he is surprised to find that his fighting gifts may come in handy. One of the children at the school, Matthew (Daniel Magder), is being cruelly bullied by some of his classmates. Taking on the role of mentor, Dan teaches Matthew to box. Though one of the boy's tormentors, Hector (Jaren Brandt Bartlett), is the current school boxing champion, under the expert guidance of his tutor Matthew just might spring a surprise on the bullies.
Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) is a family man cop who is about to turn fifty. Cautious by nature, he is less than happy to be paired with Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) when he is assigned to investigate Californian drug baron 'The General' (Mitchell Ryan). Following the death of his wife, Riggs has become a manic loner who no longer cares whether he lives or dies; an approach which causes more than a few problems as he and Murtaugh attempt to bring the General to justice.
Many welfare states are now struggling to deal with the issues and tensions raised by the growth of minority ethnic populations and increasing ethnic diversity. The fact that most societies in the developed world are now multicultural raises many challenges for policy and for the delivery of welfare services which most states have yet to address, retreating into forms of institutional racism to deny minorities the services they need. Using the UK as an exemplary case study, this much-needed book combines historical and theoretical approaches to the issue of 'race' and ethnicity within welfare provision, including an examination of how minorities experience welfare in a range of service settings. The book inspires new ways of approaching welfare and social policy, in anticipation of a society that is equal, inclusive, fair and just for all and will make essential reading for students, researchers, practitioners and policy makers
