The main theme of the book is the globalisation of China s
markets and Chinese business management in the context of ongoing
reform at home and the country s growing global economic role. "The
Globalisation of Chinese Business" includes contributions relating
to a wide range of manufacturing and service sectors, encompassing
such areas as foreign investment, state and private enterprise,
human resource management, consumer culture and advertising,
financial markets and healthcare. Following an introduction by the
editor there are four sections, the first focused on the
globalisation of Chinese management and the second on the evolution
of Chinese management. The remaining sections contain chapters on
China s growing service sector, growing markets and competition,
and healthcare system reform. An epilogue by the editor in the
remaining section concludes.
The Finite Element Method for Fluid Dynamics offers a complete introduction the application of the finite element method to fluid mechanics. The book begins with a useful summary of all relevant partial differential equations before moving on to discuss convection stabilization procedures, steady and transient state equations, and numerical solution of fluid dynamic equations. The character-based split (CBS) scheme is introduced and discussed in detail, followed by thorough coverage of incompressible and compressible fluid dynamics, flow through porous media, shallow water flow, and the numerical treatment of long and short waves. Updated throughout, this new edition includes new chapters on: Fluid-structure interaction, including discussion of one-dimensional and multidimensional problems. Biofluid dynamics, covering flow throughout the human arterial system. Focusing on the core knowledge, mathematical and analytical
tools needed for successful computational fluid dynamics (CFD),

introduction of choice for graduate level students, researchers and
professional engineers.
In response to increasing mobility and migration in Europe, the European Directive 2010/64/EU on strengthening the rights to interpretation and translation in criminal proceedings has highlighted the importance of quality in legal translation and interpreting. At the same time, the economic situation is putting pressure on public services and translation/interpreting service providers alike, jeopardizing quality standards and fair access to justice. With regard to interpreting, the use of videoconference technology is now being widely considered as a potential solution for gaining cost-effective and timely access to qualified legal interpreters. However, this gives rise to many questions, including: how technological mediation through videoconferencing affects the quality of interpreting; how this is related to the actual videoconference setting and the distribution of participants; and ultimately whether the different forms of video-mediated interpreting are sufficiently reliable for legal communication. It is against this backdrop that the AVIDICUS Project (2008-11), co-funded by the European Commission's Directorate-General Justice, set out to research the quality and viability of video-mediated interpreting in criminal proceedings. This volume, which is based on the final AVIDICUS Symposium in 2011, presents a cross-section of the findings from AVIDICUS and complementary research initiatives, as well as recommendations for judicial services, legal practitioners and police officers, and legal interpreters.
In 2005, The Millennium Ecosystem Assessment (MA) provided the
first global assessment of the world's ecosystems and ecosystem
services. It concluded that recent trends in ecosystem change
threatened human wellbeing due to declining ecosystem services.
This bleak prophecy has galvanized conservation organizations,
ecologists, and economists to work toward rigorous valuations of
ecosystem services at a spatial scale and with a resolution that
can inform public policy.

Through a simple narrative about a cockerel waking up the farm in the morning, it shows different farm animals and where on the farm they can be found. With gently rhyming text and beautiful illustrations, the book is layered and features embossing and foil, which encourage the reader to interact with the book and turn each page, delighting in increasingly expansive spreads.
The role of the Maillard reaction in forming flavors from amino
acid and sugar precursors has been studied for many years. To
establish the basic chemistry of the reaction, researchers have
used model systems, often solutions of a single amino acid with a
single sugar. Despite the apparent simplicity of the system,
heating such a solution can generate tens if not hundreds of
compounds, which requires careful and time-consuming analysis to
identify and quantify each component.
Into the Land of Dinosaurs is a layered, touch-and-feel board book for pre-school children that introduces them to dinosaurs and their main characteristics. Through a simple narrative about a baby T-rex who has lost his mum and is searching for her, it shows different dinosaurs and how the main features by which they can be identified. With gently rhyming text and beautiful illustrations, the book is layered and features embossing and foil, all of which encourages the reader to interact with the book and turn each page, delighting in increasingly expansive spreads.
A new edition of this best-selling textbook reintroduces the topic of library cataloging from a fresh, modern perspective. Not many books merit an eleventh edition, but this popular text does. Newly updated, Introduction to Cataloging and Classification provides an introduction to descriptive cataloging based on contemporary standards, explaining the basic tenets to readers without previous experience, as well as to those who merely want a better understanding of the process as it exists today. The text opens with the foundations of cataloging, then moves to specific details and subject matter such as Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR), Functional Requirements for Authority Data (FRAD), the International Cataloging Principles (ICP), and RDA. Unlike other texts, the book doesn't presume a close familiarity with the MARC bibliographic or authorities formats; ALA's Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd Edition, revised (AACR2R); or the International Standard Bibliographic Description (ISBD). Subject access to library materials is covered in sufficient depth to make the reader comfortable with the principles and practices of subject cataloging and classification. In addition, the book introduces MARC, BIBFRAME, and other approaches used to communicate and display bibliographic data. Discussions of formatting, presentation, and administrative issues complete the book; questions useful for review and study appear at the end of each chapter. Delineates the new cataloging landscape Shares a principles-based perspective An introductory text for beginners and intermediate students Emphasizes descriptive and subject cataloging, as well as format-neutral cataloging Covers new cataloging rules and RDA

Thomas Walsingham, a monk of St Albans, has been described as the last of the great medieval chroniclers. The St Albans Chronicle is arguably the most important account of English history to be written in England at this time. This volume contains the material which can be shown to have been written by Walsingham himself before 1400, and includes his highly individual account of such episodes as the Peasants' Revolt and the rise of Lollardy. This is the first modern edition, and it provides a facing-page English translation, substantial historical commentary, and textual notes.
The house of Don Pacifico, president of the Jewish community in Athens, was looted by a mob in April 1847. The riot was government-inspired and the courts were crooked. There was little chance of getting the large compensation Pacifico claimed until Palmerston, the British Foreign Secretary, became involved in a totally justifiable piece of gunboat diplomacy. The author has unearthed a mass of information which finally shows Pacifico to be a victim of prejudice rather than a conman, and has shed new light on a fascinating episode of 19th-century European history.
