"Handbook of the New Thought" is a valuable resource for anyone
interested in the law of attraction, affirmations, meditation,
mental healing of the body, and mind treatment. It is perfect for
anyone who wants to change their life in any way. In clear language
this book explains how the power of thought can be used to change
your life and heal the body, mind and spirit, and thus eliminate
fear, anxiety, worry, nervousness, pessimism and unbelief. The
author explains what New Thought is and how it arose in the 1800s,
and gives practical tips for using the ideas in daily life. The
power of the mind is the most important asset each of us has. It
doesn't matter if you are rich or poor, male or female, or where
you live or anything else, each person has this great asset -- the
power to change their thinking and thus change their life. Yes, we
all find ourselves in particular circumstances that may appear to
be holding us back for whatever reason, but we still have the
awesome power to decide how to respond to those circumstances with
our thoughts and actions. We can always affect the outcome. We
always have choices. Often we forget just how much power that fact
truly gives us. Dresser reminds us eloquently in this book, over
and over again, just how important it is to remember this truth.
"Handbook of the New Thought" has been unavailable in either print
or digital form for many years. This new edition of "Handbook of
the New Thought" is edited into gender neutral language to make it
even more accessible to a 21st century audience.
Adolph Moses taught that the true religion of Moses is recognition
of the one God for everyone everywhere, not a tribal religion
forming the basis for an ethnic state in the Middle East. Moses
emphasized the universal nature of Judaism and all true religion.
He adopted the term "Yahvism" to emphasize his conviction that
Judaism was neither a national nor a tribal religion. He wanted to
attract non-Jews to Judaism, and he wanted to lure back Jews who
had lost affection for their religion. Most of all he wanted to
show that Judaism is a religion for all those who are interested in
learning about it, and not a religion exclusively or even primarily
for those born as Jews. His vision was a new Church of Humanity
grounded in the universal vision of the biblical prophets and based
on mutual respect, union and universal love. It is with his
universal vision in mind that we present this selection of his
writings edited into gender-neutral language, in recognition of
Moses's desire to be a light to all people. This edition includes
the 1885 Declaration of Principles that became the foundation of
what came to be known as "Classical Reform Judaism," along with a
new Introduction.
Thousands of American Jews were drawn to Christian Science and
other New Thought teachings at the turn of the 20th century along
with countless Christians. The growing popularity of New Thought
teachings among American Jews concerned Jewish leaders of the time,
including American Reform Rabbi Alfred Geiger Moses (1878-1956),
who decided to do something about it. Seeing much in New Thought
teachings that could be adapted to Judaism, once stripped of its
Christian elements, Rabbi Moses first published Jewish Science in
1916. The author spends much time showing that the precepts of
Christian Science and other New Thought denominations are drawn
largely from the Hebrew scriptures. This redesigned edition
includes an extensive anthology of Hebrew scripture quotations from
a New Thought perspective, and a new introduction by the editor.
Long before the blockbuster 2006 movie and bestselling book "The
Secret" by Rhonda Byrne, and long before Esther and Jerry Hicks'
"Law of Attraction," there was this seminal work of American
practical spirituality by William Walker Atkinson. The text of this
updated edition has been edited into gender neutral language in
recognition of the author's desire to bring the insights of New
Thought spirituality to all people. Gender neutral language is a
subtle but important way to promote equality, and equality is at
the core of Atkinson's thinking. This new, gender neutral edition
will bring Atkinson's insights to a new generation of readers in
need of these timeless insights.
