The book presents the text of Edward FitzGerald's three main
versions of the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, together with
non-technical commentary on the origins, role and influence of the
poem, including the story of its publication. The commentary also
addresses the many spin-offs the poem has generated in the fields
of art and music, as well as its message and its worldwide
influence during the 150 years since its first appearance.
This practical guide is a comprehensive reference of cases with FDG images obtained on dedicated PET tomographs and hybrid scintillation gamma cameras. Dr. Dominique Delbeke and her collegues at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, along with recognized international experts, provide the reader with in-depth coverage on all aspects of FDG imaging. Unique to this book is the up-to-date coverage on both the technical and clinical aspects of FDG imaging and its cases of those malignancies practitioners are likey to encounter in their daily practice. The text also presents normal and physiologic interpretation of FDG imaging, related pitfalls in imaging interpretation, and the role of FDG imaging in different types of body tumors. Enhanced with over 300 FDG images, this book will serve as an excellent stand-alone guide for nuclear medicine physicians, radiologists, oncologists, and residents in their practice of clinical PET.
This volume of essays is based on a conference held in July 2009
at Trinity College, Cambridge to celebrate the bicentenary of the
birth of Edward FitzGerald (1809) and the 150th anniversary of the
first publication of his 'Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam' (1859). The
'Rubaiyat', loosely based on the verses attributed to the
eleventh-century Persian writer, Omar Khayyam, has become one of
the most widely known poems in the world, republished virtually
every year from 1879 (the year of FitzGerald's fourth edition) to
the present day, and translated into over eighty different
languages. And yet, with a few exceptions, it has been
systematically ignored or at best patronized by the academic
establishment. This volume sets out to explore the reasons for both
the popularity and the neglect. Broadly speaking, the essays are
divided into two main blocks. The first six chapters focus
primarily on the poem's literary qualities (including consideration
of its place in the tradition of verse translation into English,
the idea of 'nothingness', and 'syntax and sexuality'), the last
five on aspects of its reception (including essays on the
late-Victorian Omar Khayyam Club, on American parodies, and on the
many illustrated editions). They are linked by three essays that
address key 'facilitators' in the poem's transmission (including
the significant but neglected issue of cheap reprints).
PRACTICAL FDG IMAGING provides the reader with a reference source
of cases with FDG images obtained both on dedicated PET tomographs
and hybrid scintillation cameras. The cases are presented in
thorough depth so that they are of value to both specialists and
residents in training who need to learn the indications and
interpretations of FDG images and the advantages and limitations of
hybrid scintillation cameras compared to dedicated PET tomographs.
This book is ideal for nuclear and radiology medicine residents, as
well as those practitioners who need to become familiar with this
technology. The first part of the book concentrates on the
technical aspects of FDG imaging. Part two is devoted to the
clinical applications in the fields of neurology, cardiology and
oncology.
Its lines and verses have become part of the western literary canon
and his translation of this most famous of poems has been
continuously in print in for almost a century and a half. But just
who was Edward FitzGerald? Was he the eccentric recluse that most
scholars would have us believe? Is there more to the man than just
his famous translation? In The Man Behind the Rubaiyat of Omar
Khayyam William Martin and Sandra Martin go beyond the standard
view. Drawing on their unique analysis of the more than 2,000
surviving letters of FitzGerald, together with evidence from his
scrapbooks, commonplace books and materials from his personal
library, they reveal a more convivial yet complex personality than
we have been led to suppose."
One of the worst things being a Christian is to walk a straight
line doing the best you can to be a good follower of Jesus. You
don't steal, nor do you lie and most of all you love God with all
your heart, soul and body. Many of us dedicate a lot of time and
devotion to the ministry you are attending. Then one day you are
listening to a person, a group of people's conversation or a
minister's teaching and then you realize there are some things you
are missing. What you heard intrigues your interest because you are
already hungering and thirsting after God's word. You realize this
because the spirit of God quickens and speaks to your spirit.
Usually it is something concerning your salvation. God begins to
tug at you through the word, and you begin meeting other Christians
talking about the same subject God is dealing with you about. The
thing you mostly begin to deal with is facing the truth that you
weren't walking in the fullness of Jesus Christ. Then having to
make the decision to leave your friends, family, other Christians
and most of all the church you're highly devoted to, so you may
attend your newly found church that is more in depth of God's word,
worship and at liberty in the praising of God. So I wrote this book
not to judge or to say I am more righteous than others, not to say
I am all right and others are wrong. The bible tells us not to
judge anything before the coming day of the Lord. I wrote this book
after much research to enlighten those who read it of the history
that is mostly forgotten, hidden or changed by Catholicism to
fulfill their purpose of dominance to control not only Christian
history but also the history of the world. There are even words and
scriptures that have been modified to implement their teachings and
beliefs. I can't even begin to write all the modifications of
church history according to Catholicism that modified the truths of
history. But in this book I ensure you, there are important
fragments of church history I've abstracted to intrigue your
interest. Remember only Truth can make you free. John 8:32 And ye
shall know the truth shall make you free. Bishop William H. Martin;
Author of this book: The Church in the Church; Pastor of Christian
