Featuring 249 poems from 215 poets including a Bilingual Section of
50 poems by 50 poets the San Diego Poetry Annual 2012-13 offers new
work from Featured Poet Diane Wakoski, California poet laureates Al
Young and Juan Felipe Herrera, Steve Kowit, Marge Piercy, Ellen
Bass, Maria Mazziotti Gillan and the finest poets working in our
region. The San Diego Poetry Annual is part of the permanent
collections of every college and university library in San Diego
County, the county and city library systems and the libraries of
independent cities throughout the area.
This is the sixth edition of the San Diego Poetry Annual, featuring
226 poets and 325 poems, including new work from Featured Poet
Marge Piercy. An expanded bilingual section holds 51 poems by the
best in the region writing in Spanish. From giants like Diane
Wakoski, Steve Kowit, Ellen Bass, Maria Mazzioti Gillan and Ilya
Kaminsky to those whose work appears for the first time, this
anthology celebrates the broad diversity of talent throughout the
greater San Diego region. The San Diego Poetry Annual is part of
the permanent collections of every regional college and university
library, the San Diego County and City public library systems and
the libraries of independent cities from Oceanside to Chula Vista,
Escondido to El Cajon.
The San Diego Poetry Annual celebrates the diversity of talent
found throughout the region. The work of celebrated poets, like
Marge Piercy and Steve Kowit, appears next to the poems from those
who are published for the first time.
The San Diego Poetry Annual is now part of the permanent collection
of every college and university library in the San Diego region, as
well as the San Diego County Library system, the San Diego City
Library and the libraries of individual cities, including Carlsbad,
Oceanside and Escondido. This 4th edition is the biggest and most
diversified yet, featuring 146 poets and 222 of the best poems from
every corner of San Diego. Copies of each edition of the San Diego
Poetry Annual are donated in the name of contributing poets to
public and college libraries in San Diego County and to select
libraries nationally.
The 3rd edition of the San Diego Poetry Annual features the
celebrated - Dorianne Laux, Steve Kowit, Sam Hamod - alongside
those who are published here for the first time, revealing the
diversity of talent throughout San Diego, across every plane: race,
ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, age, language, economics,
location, occupation. To ensure the permanence of this collection,
copies of each edition are donated in the name of contributing
poets to public and college libraries in San Diego County and to
select private libraries nationally.
This inaugural edition of The San Diego Poetry Annual features 101
poems written in 2006 by poets who live, study, work or who were
born or raised in San Diego County. Our aim in publishing the best
poems we can find each year is to celebrate the rich diversity of
talent found throughout our region. We looked for poems from all
walks of life and on every subject. There were no restrictions, no
taboos. Featured poets, listed in bold face in the Table of
Contents, anchor this effort and include some of our finest writers
-- Steve Kowit, Sam Hamod, Megan Webster, California poet laureate
Al Young and others - but it is the combined force of all the other
poets that powers this book, mirroring both the eclectic nature of
the San Diego poetry scene and its impressive collective energy.

the name of the contributing poets to every public library in the
county, and to reference libraries throughout the state.
