This book of new essays investigates the category of the
post-colonial as a theoretical concept, discourse, and state of
mind. In an international forum of both literary critics and
writers, these essays look at contemporary writing in English
throughout the world in an attempt to revision the current critical
practice of post-colonial studies. Structured as a dialogue between
different views, Critics and Writers Speak will add to the
self-reflexivity among post-colonial critics, extending the debate
and stimulating dialogue about the future of post-colonial studies.

John Fincher's paintings of towering poplars, pine limbs set
against crystalline skies, richly hued desert hillsides and cropped
prickly pears unravel the manifold cultural meanings inscribed
within representations of the mythic American West. This is the
first comprehensive volume dedicated to Fincher's 40-year career.
Essays by prominent scholars and organists examine the music of
Franck and other nineteenth-century French organist-composers
through stylistic analysis, study of compositional process, and
exploration of how ideas about organ technique and
performance-practice traditions developed and became codified.
Nineteenth-century French organ music attracts an ever-increasing
number of performers and devotees. The music of Cesar Franck and
other distinguished composers-Boely, Guilmant, Widor-and the impact
upon this repertoire of the organ-building achievements of Aristide

study of the compositional process, and the exploration of how
ideas about organ technique and performance practice traditions
developed and became codified. New consideration is also given to
the political and cultural contexts within which Franck and other
French organist-composers worked. Contributors: Kimberley Marshall,

From the moment he arrived in New Mexico in 1964, Gus Blaisdell
(1935-2003) was a legendary presence. Famous in Albuquerque as a
writer, teacher, publisher, editor, and especially as the
proprietor of the Living Batch bookstore, Blaisdell was also a
brilliant critic whose essays influenced readers throughout the
country and across the Atlantic. This long-awaited collection of
Blaisdell's critical writings includes essays on literature, art,
and film, along with moving tributes by some of the distinguished
writers who numbered Blaisdell among their friends. Introductory
essays by philosopher Stanley Cavell and literary critic David
Morris join colleague Ira Jaffe's poignant memoir to provide
perspectives on the man by friends who knew him well. Glimpses of
Blaisdell's vivid personality can be had from the many photographs
included, and the diligently researched chronology compiled by
Nicole Blaisdell Ivey tracks the course of her father's complicated
life.
