Der vorliegende Band macht die heute schwer zugangliche erste Auflage dieses Pionierwerkes wieder verfugbar. Er macht deutlich, dass die Kinderpsychologie nicht als "Ableger" der beginnenden experimentellen Psychologie entstand, sondern aus dem Bestreben heraus, der Evolutionstheorie Darwins ein weiteres Anwendungsgebiet zu erschliessen.
