Die Seele des Kindes (1882) von William Thierry Preyer (1841 - 1897) war das "Eroffnungswerk der modernen Kinderpsychologie" (William Stern) und wurde noch mehr als 40 Jahre nach seinem Erscheinen als "Grundbuch der heutigen Kinderpsychologie" (Karl Buhler) bezeichnet.
