This book constructs a new theoretical framework for understanding contemporary Chinese agricultural production organizations from the perspective of promoting farmers' realization of 'substantial freedom' and 'feasible ability'. The new theoretical framework deepens and expands the theory of agricultural modernization and production organizations. The book discusses the 'multi-symbiosis' pattern of agricultural production organizations in contemporary China from macro and micro economics perspectives. Based on the peasant household economy, this multi-symbiosis organizational structure co-exists and interweaves with various forms of economic organizations. The book points out that this multi-symbiosis organizational structure is the result of free choice of the majority of farmers since the 'reform' and 'opening-up'; in turn, it also provides a broader organizational and institutional space for farmers' diversified choices. The book predicts that China's agricultural production organization networking will gradually move towards networking based on diversification and also form networked organization groups.
The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), launched by China in 2013, carries and projects powerful regional dimensions and transformations, with short- and long-term global, national and local consequences. The BRI's regional significance lies in its designation and creation of several cross-border corridors that originate from inside China and extend out into its neighbouring countries, and those farther afield in Asia, Africa and Europe. Through driving and facilitating new trade and infrastructure connections along and beyond these corridors, the BRI has begun to reshape the master processes of globalisation, urbanisation and development by affecting the economic, social and spatial fortunes of many countries and cities. This book serves two purposes. First, through a new framework and three case studies, it examines the BRI's impacts on globalisation, urbanisation and development via the China-Europe Freight Train, the paired construction of a new city and railway across the China-Laos borderland and the port-park-city development corridor between Djibouti and Ethiopia. Second, the comparative analysis and evidence guide the book to advance policy recommendations for targeted stakeholders that can potentially turn the BRI into a global public good with greater benefits and fewer risks.
This volume contains the proceedings of the International Conference on Advanced Data Mining and Applications (ADMA 2009), held in Beijing, China, during August 17-19, 2009. We are pleased to have a very strong program. Acceptance into the conference proceedings was extremely competitive. From the 322 submissions from 27 countries and regions, the Program Committee selected 34 full papers and 47 short papers for presentation at the conference and inclusion in the proceedings. The c- tributed papers cover a wide range of data mining topics and a diverse spectrum of interesting applications. The Program Committee worked very hard to select these papers through a rigorous review process and extensive discussion, and finally c- posed a diverse and exciting program for ADMA 2009. An important feature of the main program was the truly outstanding keynote spe- ers program. Edward Y. Chang, Director of Research, Google China, gave a talk titled "Confucius and 'Its' Intelligent Disciples". Being right in the forefront of data mining applications to the world's largest knowledge and data base, the Web, Dr. Chang - scribed how Google's Knowledge Search product help to improve the scalability of machine learning for Web-scale applications. Charles X. Ling, a seasoned researcher in data mining from the University of Western Ontario, Canada, talked about his in- vative applications of data mining and artificial intelligence to gifted child education.
The Fourth International Conference on Advanced Data Mining and Applications (ADMA 2008) will be held in Chengdu, China, followed by the last three successful ADMA conferences (2005 in Wu Han, 2006 in Xi'an, and 2007 Harbin). Our major goal of ADMA is to bring together the experts on data mining in the world, and to provide a leading international forum for the dissemination of original research results in data mining, including applications, algorithms, software and systems, and different disciplines with potential applications of data mining. This goal has been partially achieved in a very short time despite the young age of the conference, thanks to the rigorous review process insisted upon, the outstanding list of internationally renowned keynote speakers and the excellent program each year. ADMA is ranked higher than, or very similar to, other data mining conferences (such as PAKDD, PKDD, and SDM) in early 2008 by an independent source: cs-conference-ranking. org. This year we had the pleasure and honor to host illustrious keynote speakers. Our distinguished keynote speakers are Prof. Qiang Yang and Prof. Jiming Liu. Prof. Yang is a tenured Professor and postgraduate studies coordinator at Computer Science and Engineering Department of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is also a member of AAAI, ACM, a senior member of the IEEE, and he is also an as- ciate editor for the IEEE TKDE and IEEE Intelligent Systems, KAIS and WI Journals.
This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Third International Conference on Advanced Data Mining and Applications, ADMA 2007, held in Harbin, China in August 2007. The 44 revised full papers and 15 revised short papers presented together with the abstract of 1 invited lecture were carefully reviewed and selected from about 200 submissions. The papers focus on advancements in data mining and peculiarities and challenges of real world applications using data mining. The major theme of the conference encompasses the innovative applications of data mining approaches to real-world problems that involve large data sets, incomplete and noisy data, or demand optimal solutions.

The book presents 41 revised full papers and 74 revised short papers together with 4 invited papers. The papers are organized in topical sections on association rules, classification, clustering, novel algorithms, multimedia mining, sequential data mining and time series mining, web mining, biomedical mining, advanced applications, and more.
With the ever-growing power to generate, transmit and collect huge amounts of data, information overload is now an imminent problem to mankind. The overwhelming demand for information processing is not just about a better - derstanding of data, but also a better usage of data in a timely fashion. Data mining, or knowledge discovery from databases, is proposed to gain insight into aspects of dataand to help peoplemakeinformed, sensible, andbetter decisions. At present, growing attention has been paid to the study, development and - plication of data mining. As a result there is an urgent need for sophisticated techniques and tools that can handle new ?elds of data mining, e.g., spatialdata mining, biomedical data mining, and mining on high-speed and time-variant data streams. The knowledge of data mining should also be expanded to new applications. The1stInternationalConferenceonAdvancedDataMiningandApplications (ADMA 2005) aimed to bring together the experts on data mining throughout the world. It provided a leading international forum for the dissemination of original research results in advanced data mining techniques, applications, al- rithms, software and systems, and di?erent applied disciplines. The conference attracted 539 online submissions and 63 mailing submissions from 25 di?erent countriesandareas.Allfullpaperswerepeer reviewedbyatleastthreemembers of the Program Committee composed of international experts in data mining ?elds. A total number of 100 papers were accepted for the conference. Amongst them 25 papers were selected as regular papers and 75 papers were selected as short papers, yielding a combined acceptance rate of 17%

While electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming increasingly popular. Their low oil dependency and low emissions will significantly benefit the environment. However, as demand increases for EVs, their prevalence will also lead to two crucial consequences. First, electric vehicles introduce a heavy load impact onto the power grid by shifting energy demand from gasoline to electricity. The surging load is likely to compromise the grid's reliability and jeopardize its power supply quality. Second, charging stations become indispensable infrastructure to support widescale deployment of EVs. EVs will therefore find themselves competing for both power supply and charging stations. Such competition can degrade quality of service and thus compromise the original intent of advocating electric vehicles. Sustainable Transportation with Electric Vehicles investigates smart electric vehicle charging. It focuses jointly on the quality of service for EV users and the stability and reliability of the power grid. It lays out a solution framework that addresses many of the key problems arising from both the lower and upper levels. The proposed solutions are developed mainly using techniques from the optimization, game theory, algorithmic, and scheduling fields.
