Alternative Protein Sources in Aquaculture Diets (Hardcover): Chhorn. Lim, Cheng-Sheng Lee, Carl D Webster Alternative Protein Sources in Aquaculture Diets (Hardcover)
Chhorn. Lim, Cheng-Sheng Lee, Carl D Webster; Contributions by D. P. Bureau, Yu Yu, …
R5,693 Discovery Miles 56 930 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

A unique resource that describes the ingredients included in an aquaculture diet, species profiles, processing methods, impacts to environment and industry, and more! Aquaculture is and will remain a major food producing sector in the future. To become more efficient and successful in the aquaculture industry, operations need to provide good nutrition. Alternative Protein Sources in Aquaculture Diets is a unique source describing the ingredients included in fish and crustacean diets, their nutrient compositions, species profiles, suitability for species, processing methods, and impacts of alternative ingredients on the environment and to the aquaculture industry. World-renowned nutritionists and feed technologists explore practical ways for the aquaculture industry to expand and remain competitive, and discuss ways to develop less expensive alternative sources or protein. Diet costs take up a huge chunk of operating expenditures, with fish meal being one of the most expensive ingredients in the aquaculture diet. Alternative Protein Sources in Aquaculture Diets provides detailed knowledge on the use of alternative plant and animal protein sources, offering opportunities to either partially or completely replace fish meal. This comprehensive, up-to-date text discusses the most widely used ingredients as well as various previously under-utilized ingredients which could be of significant potential in the future. The book is extensively referenced and includes numerous helpful tables to clearly present data. Topics discussed in Alternative Protein Sources in Aquaculture Diets (for finfish and crustacean species) include: * farmed fish diet requirements * reduction of waste through diet formulation * poultry by-product meal * meat packing by-products * soybean protein foodstuffs * cottonseed meal * lupins * unconventional plant protein supplements * and much, much more! Alternative Protein Sources in Aquaculture Diets is an essential resource for aquaculturists, nutritionists, feed formulators, feed mill operators, extension specialists, fish farmers and producers, ingredient suppliers, and policymakers.

Yu Yu, Yao Chen, Qinfen Shi
R2,703 Discovery Miles 27 030 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book constructs a model of the knowledge value chain in the university and analyzes the university knowledge value-added mechanism in the process of Industry-University Collaborative Innovation. The efficiency of university knowledge value-added of Provinces in China is measured. The book illustrates the operating mechanism between enterprise subsystems and college subsystems in the collaborative innovation system, and establishes a Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) model with parallel decision making units to assess the performance of Industry-University Collaboration Innovation in China by considering the complex internal structure of the collaborative innovation system. The book also addresses various behaviors of knowledge agents in the knowledge sharing process. The research findings of this book will provide some policy implications to help policy makers to establish a more effective collaborative and interactive innovation system. The focus on China offers a unique contribution, because the form that university-industry collaborations take differs widely from country to country. The United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, and China differ vastly in the way that they implement their respective R&D policies. Some of these differences stem from national culture, others from the historical evolution of the institutions that support innovation efforts, and some from the extent of available resources.

Profitability and Technical Efficiency of Sugarcane Farmers (Paperback): Yu Yu Mon Profitability and Technical Efficiency of Sugarcane Farmers (Paperback)
Yu Yu Mon
R2,060 Discovery Miles 20 600 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Sugarcane is not only major industrial crop but also one of the economic pillar crops in Myanmar agriculture. Due to increased demand for local consumption and export oriented nature, it should be increased not only plantation area but also yield per unit area and recovery percentage. In Myanmar, state sector productions are target driven and private sector productions are profit-oriented on free market economy. But sugarcane based small holding farms of private sector faced many challenges. Yield of sugarcane production and cane quality is low and production cost is high due to high transportation and input cost and loan interest. The small-scale private sector operates with very low efficiency in sugar recovery, higher losses and inferior in quality. Increases in sugar production are influenced by improvements in the production technology of existing sugarcane lands, mills and new sugar processing facilities. So, there is a need for technology improvement and technical efficiency measurement. This book provides economic analysis and effective ways to improve the profitability and technical efficiency of small holder sugarcane farmers at different farm size and plant natur

New Nonlinear Optical Materials - Theoretical Research (Hardcover, Illustrated Ed): Ji-Ping Huang, K W Yu Yu New Nonlinear Optical Materials - Theoretical Research (Hardcover, Illustrated Ed)
Ji-Ping Huang, K W Yu Yu
R3,974 R3,431 Discovery Miles 34 310 Save R543 (14%) Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Optical materials with large values of non-linear susceptibilities and fast responses are in great demand in industrial applications, such as non-linear optical switching devices for use in photonics and real-time coherent optical signal processors, optical limiters, and so on. In general, many applications of non-linear optics that have been demonstrated under controlled laboratory conditions could become practical for technological uses if such materials were available. It is usually believed that an effective enhanced non-linear optical response can appear in a composite material in which at least one component should possess an inherent non-linear optical response. Thus, the common way to develop new non-linear optical materials is to seek materials in which the components possess an inherently large non-linear optical response. In contrast, the author has theoretically exploited some new non-linear optical materials, e.g., colloidal nanocrystals with strong lattice effects, metallic films with inhomogeneous microstructures adjusted by ion doping or temperature gradient, composites of graded (and/or shape-anisotropic) nanoparticles, etc. The proposed materials are difficult or impossible to achieve with conventional, naturally occurring materials or random composites widely discussed in the literature. This book presents a first-hand review of the latest developments in this field.
