This text provides a state of the art overview of tools for guiding surgeons in the modern operating room. The text explains how many modalities in the current armamentarium of radiologic imaging have been brought to the operating room for real time use. It also explains the current use of near infrared, fluorescent, and chemo-luminescent imaging to guide minimally invasive and open surgery to improve outcome. The book is separated into two sections. The first, discusses the biologic principles that underlie novel visualization of normal organs and pathology. The currently available equipment and equipment anticipated in the near future is covered. The second section summarizes current clinical applications of advanced imaging and visualization in the OR. Novel means of visualizing normal anatomic structures such as nerves, bile duct, and vessels that enhance safety of many operations are covered. Novel biologic imaging using radio-labeled and fluorescent-labeled molecular probes that allow identification of inflammation, vascular abnormalities, and cancer are also discussed.Authored by scientists who pioneer research in optics and radiology, tool makers who use this knowledge to make surgical equipment, and surgeons who innovate the field of surgery using these new operative tools, Imaging and Visualization in the Modern Operating Room is a valuable guide for surgeons, residents and fellows entering the field.
Image-Guided Cancer Therapy: A Multidisciplinary Approach provides clinicians with in-depth coverage of the growing, dynamic field of interventional oncology. Combining the knowledge of expert editors and authors into one powerhouse reference, this book looks at tumor ablation, HIFU, embolic therapies, emerging technologies, and radiation therapy throughout the body (liver, bone, breast, gynecologic and prostate cancers, to name just a few) , and includes discussion of different imaging modalities. In the words of Peter Mueller, MD, author of the book's Foreword: "... The senior authors are all world renowned experts in interventional oncology, which is another example of the high quality authorship and experience that is brought to this book. The later chapters discuss therapies that are simply not covered in any other source. Everyone who is doing or wants to do ablation therapies and interventional oncology will face a time when they will be asked to use their expertise in less used and less investigated areas. There is nowhere else where the reader can get information on the prostate, breast, and gynecologic areas, and especially pediatrics....This book is an outstanding contribution to the literature and will become a 'must read' for all physicians who are interested in Interventional Oncology."

Meeting the need for a practical, data-driven reference in this rapidly advancing field, Principles and Practice of Robotic General Surgery, edited by Drs. Yuman Fong, Alessio Pigazzi, Loretta Erhunmwunsee, Dina Podolsky, and Dana Dale Portenier, presents state-of-the-art content for surgeons at all levels of training and expertise. Section One covers the history, platforms, and the organization, operating room architecture, and training issues revolving around robotic surgery; Section Two contains more than two-dozen discipline-based chapters outlining common robotic procedures in general surgery. Provides up-to-date discussions of current robotic platforms; imaging and display in robotic surgery, including contrast agents and augmented reality; the robotic team; emergencies in robotic surgery; and more Contains well-illustrated, discipline-based coverage of hernia surgery, bariatric surgery, upper GI surgery, colorectal surgery, hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery, and thoracic, endocrine, and urologic/gynecologic procedures Provides numerous tables of evidence that summarize emerging, outcome-supported data on the advantages of robotic surgery in terms of safety and benefits to patients Serves as an authoritative guide for residents and fellows in training, a reference for the surgeons active in robotic surgery, and a primer for senior surgeons adapting these new technologies to their current practice  Enrich Your eBook Reading Experience Read directly on your preferred device(s), such as computer, tablet, or smartphone. Easily convert to audiobook, powering your content with natural language text-to-speech.Â
The first edition of this book was judged by many to be the best available atlas of upper gastrointestinal and hepato-pancreato-biliary surgery. The second edition builds upon this success by covering all of the significant intervening developments, including both new procedures and adaptations of established techniques. The atlas opens with an introductory section on the basic principles of operative surgery. All of the important surgical techniques are then presented in a series of sections devoted to the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum, the liver, the biliary system, portal hypertension, the pancreas, and the spleen. General, oncologic, and transplantation surgical procedures are described step by step with the aid of more than 900 superb illustrations drawn by a team of artists with extensive experience. The contributors were selected on the basis of their extensive experience in the procedures discussed and most are established educators.
NK Cells in Cancer Immunotherapy: Successes and Challenges explains the latest immunotherapeutic strategies, focusing on NK cells to allow the best and precise combination treatments to cancer patients. The book provides existing background knowledge in the field of immunotherapy and discusses future areas of research required to carry out cutting-edge, validated therapies. Chapters cover advances in immunotherapeutic strategies, in particular, the use of NK cells with and without T-cell therapy in the treatment of cancer. The book is a valuable resource for cancer researchers, oncologists, graduate students and those interested in learning more about novel strategies to treat cancer patients. Immunotherapy is fast becoming the method of choice for cancer therapy. Although remarkable advances have been made in the field of immunotherapy, there are significant challenges and difficulties ahead since many of the current immunotherapeutic strategies do not provide long-lasting treatment strategies, and therefore are not very effective.
This book is intended as a definitive, state of the art guide to robotic surgery that summarizes the field for surgeons at all levels. More specifically, its goals are threefold: to review the basics of robotic surgery, including fundamental principles, technology, operating room setup, and workflow; to describe and illustrate the procedures most commonly performed in a robotic operating room; and to discuss key issues relating to cost, adoption, and training. Procedures from many surgical disciplines are included, which will aid robotic surgeons in supervising and assisting colleagues in these disciplines and simultaneously heighten their awareness of the tricks and tools used in other disciplines that can be retasked for their own purposes. In addition, the future prospects for robotic surgery, including anticipated developments in equipment, are discussed. The Textbook and Atlas of Robotic Surgery will be an excellent aid for residents and fellows entering the field, as well as a welcome update on recent progress for practicing robotic surgeons and an ideal primer for senior surgeons adapting these new technologies to their current practice.
