Nanoengineered Nanofibrous Materials (Hardcover, 2004 ed.): Jennifer Wright Nanoengineered Nanofibrous Materials (Hardcover, 2004 ed.)
Jennifer Wright; Edited by Selcuk Guceri, Yury G. Gogotsi, Vladimir Kuznetsov
R7,934 Discovery Miles 79 340 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The combination of conductive polymer technology with the ability to produce nanofibres will facilitate major new developments in biotechnology and information technology, benefiting such areas as scaffolds for tissue engineering and drug delivery systems; wires, capacitors, transistors and diodes; sensor technology; biohazard protection; and energy transport, conversion and storage.

The work on nanofibrous materials presented here is designed, first of all, to instruct scientists in the most advanced methods for the formation of nanofibres and nanotubes. The second section covers the physics and chemistry of nanofibres, while the third deals with computer simulation and modelling. The applications described in section 4 include biomedical applications, nanotube-based devices, electronic applications of nanotubes and nanofibres, nanofluidics, and composites. Finally, the fifth section discusses recent developments in nanomaterials, nanoparticles and nanostructures.

Nanostructured Materials and Coatings for Biomedical and Sensor Applications (Hardcover, 2003 ed.): Yury G. Gogotsi, Irina V.... Nanostructured Materials and Coatings for Biomedical and Sensor Applications (Hardcover, 2003 ed.)
Yury G. Gogotsi, Irina V. Uvarova
R4,231 Discovery Miles 42 310 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This volume contains papers that were presented at the NATO Advanced Research Workshop on Nanostructured Materials and Coatings for Biomedical and Sensor Applications held in Kyiv, Ukraine, 4-8 August, 2002. A total of 104 scientists from 14 countries participated in our ARW, making it a really international event. Participants ranged from graduate students to senior researchers. They presented 16 tutorial lectures, 20 short talks and more than 70 posters. Invited speakers, from NATO and Partner countries, presented some of the most recent developments in physics, chemistry and technology of nanosized materials. A broad range of speakers having international standing and representing NATO and partner countries, as well as university, industrial and govemment research laboratories participated in this meeting and wrote papers for this volume. Foregoing ARW gathered together the scientists working in the area of nanosized materials and coatings and their applications in biomedicine and sensors. The first objective of this AR W was to discuss the current research covering a wide range of physical and chemical properties of biomaterials and their use. Active discussion of oral presentations and posters, and the round table discussion gave a good opportunity to researchers from academia and industry to discuss the achievements in this field and outline future directions in terms of technological developments and product commercialisation in the fields of biomedicine and sensors. Particularly, advanced ceramics and nanostructured carbons were covered in many presentations.

Materials Science of Carbides, Nitrides and Borides (Hardcover, 1999 ed.): Yury G. Gogotsi, R.A. Andrievski Materials Science of Carbides, Nitrides and Borides (Hardcover, 1999 ed.)
Yury G. Gogotsi, R.A. Andrievski
R5,774 Discovery Miles 57 740 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

A survey of current research on a wide range of carbide, nitride and boride materials, covering the general issues relevant to the development and characterisation of a variety of advanced materials. Topics include structure and electronic properties, modeling, processing, high-temperature chemistry, oxidation and corrosion, mechanical behaviour, manufacturing and applications. The volume complements more specialised books on specific materials as well as more general texts on ceramics or hard materials, presenting a survey of materials research as a key to technological development. After decades of research, the materials are being used in electronics, wear resistant, refractory and other applications, but numerous new applications are possible. Roughly equal numbers of papers cover theoretical and experimental research in the general field of materials science of refractory materials. Audience: Researchers and graduate students in materials science and engineering.
