Cloud computing is becoming the next revolution in the IT industry; providing central storage for internet data and services that have the potential to bring data transmission performance, security and privacy, data deluge, and inefficient architecture to the next level. Enabling the New Era of Cloud Computing: Data Security, Transfer, and Management discusses cloud computing as an emerging technology and its critical role in the IT industry upgrade and economic development in the future. This book is an essential resource for business decision makers, technology investors, architects and engineers, and cloud consumers interested in the cloud computing future.
Image and video coding is one of the most important areas in source coding (also known as data compression). In the last decades, a wide range of multimedia applications and services have become an integral part of the industries, from mobile communications to Internet broadcasting, and entertainment to consumer electronics. In the coming decades, media services will tend to be delivered at better qualities, lower or acceptable complexities, and still lower bit rates by efficient future codecs than occurs today. This book aims to present an overview of state-of-the-art strategies of image and video coding, including the fundamental techniques, international standards and future perspectives.
Over the past decades, a tremendous effort has been put into the research to develop advanced system for video communications over wireless and Internet channels. Because video communications are essentially delay-sensitive, bandwidth-intense and loss-tolerant, joint source-channel coding (JSCe is investigated intensively to attain the optimum performance. The advances achieved in cross-layer design at the lower layers (PHY and DLL) can be further enhanced by taking into account source characteristics and requirements allowing existing networks to provide optimal time-varying Quality of Service (QoS). This book proposes both coding schemes and system design strategies for video wireless communications. The analysis should be especially useful to professionals in video coding and wireless communications fields, both in academia and in industry.
