This book focuses on the effects of genotoxic agents causing oxidative stress in plants. The book explores different kind of chemicals which induces genotoxicity, their mechanism of action and effects on plant health. Impacts at the physiological and molecular levels are discussed. The book is of interest to teachers, researchers and plant scientists. Also the book serves as additional reading material for undergraduate and graduate students of agriculture, forestry, ecology, soil science, and environmental sciences. National and international agricultural scientists will also find this to be a useful read.
With the rapid increase in the global population and changing climatic impacts on agriculture, this book demonstrates how genome editing will be an indispensable technique to overcome ongoing and prospective agricultural challenges. This book examines the role of genome editing for improving crop yields and contributing to global food security. It summarises a range of genome editing techniques and discusses the roles they can play in producing a new generation of high-yielding, climate ready crops. This includes Site-Specific Nucleases, precision genome engineering, Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats (CRISPR) and bioinformatics. It showcases how these gene editing techniques can tailor plants to not only increase yield related traits, but to also make them better suited to their environment and to be resistant to pests and extreme climatic events, such as droughts. The book also examines genome editing regulations and policies, the commercialisation of genome edited crops and biosafety and biosecurity concerns. Overall, this book reveals and showcases how genome editing can improve crop resilience and production to address current and future agricultural challenges and for the alleviation of global food security concerns. This book will be of great interest to students and scholars of agricultural science, crop and plant science, genome editing, sustainable agriculture, biotechnology and food security.

Nanotechnology research and its application in agriculture has become a major focus in recent years. Nanoformulations offer the possibility to develop more efficient and less damaging agrochemicals in the environment. Smart delivery systems for nanosensors, molecules that can help to detect biotic or abiotic stresses before they can affect production, are being developed and applied. Nanotechnology also provides new techniques for genetic manipulation and plant breeding. The use of nanoformulations in agriculture is increasingly being used to enhance food values, reduce agricultural inputs, improve nutrient contents and create a longer shelf life for many products. Nanotechnology is also being applied to many aspects of food security, disease treatment, new tools for pathogen detection, effective delivery systems and packaging materials. All of these applications are supposed to assist in addressing the needs of a growing population, and help in mitigating the effects of climate change and other ecological disturbances. Written by an international team of experts from across this broad discipline, this book highlights new applications of these nanoforms in the field of agricultural science. It is essential reading for graduate students, researchers and practitioners involved in the application of nanotechnology in agriculture. The book: examines the role of nano-formulations in crop yield improvement whilst reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides; covers specially enabled delivery systems for the release of nanoformulations, field-sensing systems to monitor environmental stresses, and improvement of plant traits against environmental stress and diseases; is unambiguous, lucid, scientific and precise, with chapters supplemented by ample illustration and case studies to help clarify and summarize key points throughout.
