This book describes the scale and complexity of China's energy
system, using Sankey diagrams to visualize the energy flows across
the economy and categorizing the differences between provinces.
China's provinces extend over a vast area and are at different
stages of economic development. Regional planning and
inter-regional optimization will be essential for planning a future
infrastructure that will allow China as a whole to optimize and
avoid overcapacity and inefficiency. In this context, it introduces
a new energy systems modeling approach and demonstrates its
application in the power sector. This power model can help optimize
the overall design of the power system and reveal how different
future investment choices, e.g. natural gas fired power, only
emerge when details such as regional, seasonal and diurnal demand
factors are considered. Lastly, it looks at options for mitigating
carbon and the major role that renewables & natural gas could
play, as well as carbon pricing.
This succinct book focuses on computer aided design (CAD), 3-D
modeling, and engineering analysis and the ways they can be applied

This book provides a relatively complete introduction to the
methods used in computational condensed matter. A wide range of
electronic structure theories are introduced, including traditional
quantum chemistry methods, density functional theory, many-body
perturbation theory, and more. Molecular dynamics simulations are
also discussed, with extensions to enhanced sampling and
free-energy calculation techniques including umbrella sampling,
meta-dynamics, integrated tempering sampling, etc. As a further
extension beyond the standard Born-Oppenheimer molecular dynamics,
some simulation techniques for the description of quantum nuclear
effects are also covered, based on Feynman's path-integral
representation of quantum mechanics. The book aims to help
beginning graduate students to set up a framework of the concepts
they should know before tackling the physical/chemical problems
they will face in their research.
This book aims at discussing the development of MOOCs in China in
relation to MOOCs in other countries or areas. Based on the history
of MOOCs, we summarize and compare the development of MOOCs in
China and other countries with empirical evidence from a
comprehensive investigation about MOOCs in Asian, United States,
and Europe. Then we discuss about the importance of MOOCs in China
and its role in the reform of higher education system, and the
model of teaching and learning in China. After all, we provide
suggestions about how to improve MOOCs at the national,
institutional, and individual level. In this book, we analyse and
present the current construction and development of MOOCs in China
from four dimensions including platforms, courses, learners,
colleges and universities based on huge empirical evidence from a
comprehensive investigation of 14 platforms, 42 universities, 1388
MOOCs, and 22895 learners. Our investigation mainly focused on
seven topics: platform construction and operation, learner groups,
curriculum organization form, teaching interaction, learning
evaluation model, learning support service, and courses
certification and academic score system. Based on the
investigation, we found there is an emerging trend of collaboration
among government, universities and enterprise in the development of
MOOCs in China, which provides great opportunities to build an
innovative educational service system for all kinds of learners. We
also discuss our findings in relation to the corresponding
development of MOOCs in United States, Europe and other regions and
then focus on the unique challenges that China faces, such as the
lack of deep learning in MOOCs, the low information literacy and
self-regulated learning abilities of MOOC learners, the lack of
individualized support for MOOC learners, and so on. At last, this
book summarizes the overall development of MOOCs in China and other
countries and then put forward the future trends and suggestions in
this field.

Abelian varieties can be classified via their moduli. In positive
characteristic the structure of the p-torsion-structure is an
additional, useful tool. For that structure supersingular abelian
varieties can be considered the most special ones. They provide a
starting point for the fine description of various structures. For
low dimensions the moduli of supersingular abelian varieties is by
now well understood. In this book we provide a description of the
supersingular locus in all dimensions, in particular we compute the
dimension of it: it turns out to be equal to AEg.g/4UE, and we
express the number of components as a class number, thus completing
a long historical line where special cases were studied and general
results were conjectured (Deuring, Hasse, Igusa, Oda-Oort,
Katsura-Oort).

The year 1995, when the Fourth World Conference on Women was held
in Beijing, marks a historical milestone in the development of the
Chinese feminist movement. In the decades that followed, three
distinct trends emerged: first, there was a rise in feminist NGOs
in mainland China and a surfacing of LGBTQ movements; second,
social and economic developments nurtured new female agency,
creating a vibrant, women-oriented cultural milieu in China; third,
in response to ethnocentric Western feminism, some Chinese feminist
scholars and activists recuperated the legacies of socialist
China's state feminism and gender policies in a new millennium.
These trends have brought Chinese women unprecedented choices,
resources, opportunities, pitfalls, challenges, and even crises. In
this timely volume, Zhu and Xiao offer an examination of the ways
in which Chinese feminist ideas have developed since the mid-1990s.
By juxtaposing the plural ""feminisms"" with ""Chinese
characteristics,"" they both underline the importance of
integrating Chinese culture, history, and tradition in the
discussions of Chinese feminisms, and, stress the difference
between the plethora of contemporary Chinese feminisms and the
singular state feminism. The twelve chapters in this
interdisciplinary collection address the theme of feminisms with
Chinese characteristics from different perspectives rendered from
lived experiences, historical reflections, theoretical ruminations,
and cultural and sociopolitical critiques, painting a panoramic
picture of Chinese feminisms in the age of globalization.
This book makes Chinese ethics theoretically more understandable
through an interdisciplinary approach, from the perspectives of
hermeneutics and semiotics. The Analects of Confucius are
structurally analyzed so as to reveal the epistemological
preconditions and pragmatic rationality implied in the maxims of
this important classic. The composition, constitution, and
structure of the Han Academic system are studied; other pre-Qin
Chinese ideologies, like Taoist nihilism and Mencian-Confucian
ethics are also discussed. Volume 1 and 2 The Structure of the
Chinese Ethical Archetype 1. The Background and Foundation of
Confucian Ethical Rationality 2. The Pragmatic Aesthetics of
Ethical Choice 3. The Political Turn of Mencian-Confucian Ethics
against Taoist Nihilism and Legalist Philosophy of Power Volume 3
and 4 The Constitution of Han-Academic Ideology 1. The Background
and Conditions of Han-Confucianism 2. The Composition of the
Confucian Classics 3. The Cultural Consequences of Han-Confucianism
This book focuses on three topics. The first topic is the
effectiveness of the selective encryption approach. Selective
encryption algorithms are very effective, thus have some weak
points in their security. In this book, two successful security
attacks against I-frame and DCT selective encryption algorithms are
performed. Two algorithms are then proposed and evaluated
accordingly. Our second topic is the coordination of multimedia
security services. The conflict of data security algorithms and
compression has introduced performance degradation and defective
results. We invented an algorithm to completely eliminate
compression from the fingerprinting loop to optimize performance. A
second algorithm was invented for entertainment-level
fast/effective encryption, particularly suitable for mobile
devices, without noticeable compression overhead. The third topic
is about how to detect and distinguish malicious attacks from
allowable modifications in authentication. Using the hypothesis of
decision border surface, an ideal solution of content
authentication is proposed using a combination of generic
authentications with classification techniques.
Based on the Legalist philosophy of power the Han dynasty
accomplished its political and intellectual unification, forming
the longest consummate academic ideological system in the world -
Confucianism. During the Confucianist manipulation of the cultural
material the sanctified historical texts became representations of
power-lineage and philosophico-historiographical research of the
stereotyped procedure. The book sets forth the composition,
constitution and structure of the Han academic system through a
hermeneutico-semiotic methodology. The tension between Confucian
ethics and Han-Confucianist ideological morality is shown to entail
a general model of the link of ethics and ideology in historical
life. The Confucian thought and the Confucianist (ju)
socio-cultural system is emphatically distinguished to reveal
different cultural layers in Chinese historical society.
