This SpringerBrief offers a comprehensive review and in-depth
discussion of the current research on resource management. The
authors explain how to best utilize harvested energy and temporally
available licensed spectrum. Throughout the brief, the primary
focus is energy and spectrum harvesting sensor networks (ESHNs)
including energy harvesting (EH)-powered spectrum sensing and
dynamic spectrum access. To efficiently collect data through the
available licensed spectrum, this brief examines the joint
management of energy and spectrum. An EH-powered spectrum sensing
and management scheme for Heterogeneous Spectrum Harvesting Sensor
Networks (HSHSNs) is presented in this brief. The scheme
dynamically schedules the data sensing and spectrum access of
sensors in ESHSNs to optimize the network utility, while
considering the stochastic nature of EH process, PU activities and
channel conditions. This brief also provides useful insights for
the practical resource management scheme design for ESHSNs and
motivates a new line of thinking for future sensor networking.
Professionals, researchers, and advanced-level students in
electrical or computer engineering will find the content valuable.
Nonlinear Photonics and Novel Optical Phenomena contains
contributed chapters from leading experts in nonlinear optics and
photonics, and provides a comprehensive survey of fundamental
concepts as well as hot topics in current research on nonlinear
optical waves and related novel phenomena. The book covers
self-accelerating airy beams, integrated photonics based on high
index doped-silica glass, linear and nonlinear spatial beam
dynamics in photonic lattices and waveguide arrays, the theory of
polariton solitons in semiconductor microcavities, and Terahertz
waves.

Advanced Ceramics for Energy Storage, Thermoelectrics and Photonics
describes recent progress in ceramic synthesis and applications in
rechargeable batteries, capacitors, fuel cells, ferroelectrics and
thermoelectrics. Both fundamental scientific advancements and
technological breakthroughs in terms of new ceramic chemistries,
new synthesis methodologies, and new applications are discussed.
The latest developments in advanced electrodes, ionic conductors,
catalysts, and thermoelectric ceramics and their applications are
also covered. With its focus on energy-related applications, the
book will be a valuable reference resource for new researchers,
academics and postgraduate students who are interested in delving
deeper into energy-related materials research. Ceramic materials
have long been admired and used in mechanical structures, taking
advantage of their thermal and chemical stability. Some of their
other properties can't be over-emphasized such as unique
electrical, optical and magnetic properties that have found
unprecedented applications in energy conversion and storage,
communication, microelectronics and smart devices.
