This book is a part of the Proceedings of the Seventh International
Symposium on Neural Networks (ISNN 2010), held on June 6-9, 2010 in
Shanghai, China. Over the past few years, ISNN has matured into a
well-established premier international symposium on neural networks
and related fields, with a successful sequence of ISNN series in
Dalian (2004), Chongqing (2005), Chengdu (2006), Nanjing (2007),
Beijing (2008), and Wuhan (2009). Following the tradition of ISNN
series, ISNN 2010 provided a high-level international forum for
scientists, engineers, and educators to present the
state-of-the-art research in neural networks and related fields,
and also discuss the major opportunities and challenges of future
neural network research. Over the past decades, the neural network
community has witnessed significant breakthroughs and developments
from all aspects of neural network research, including theoretical
foundations, architectures, and network organizations, modeling and
simulation, empirical studies, as well as a wide range of
applications across different domains. The recent developments of
science and technology, including neuroscience, computer science,
cognitive science, nano-technologies and engineering design, among
others, has provided significant new understandings and
technological solutions to move the neural network research toward
the development of complex, large scale, and networked brain-like
intelligent systems. This long-term goals can only be achieved with
the continuous efforts from the community to seriously investigate
various issues on neural networks and related topics.

This volume of Advances in Soft Computing and Lecture Notes in
Computer th Science vols. 5551, 5552 and 5553, constitute the
Proceedings of the 6 Inter- tional Symposium of Neural Networks
(ISNN 2009) held in Wuhan, China during May 26-29, 2009. ISNN is a
prestigious annual symposium on neural networks with past events
held in Dalian (2004), Chongqing (2005), Chengdu (2006), N- jing
(2007) and Beijing (2008). Over the past few years, ISNN has
matured into a well-established series of international conference
on neural networks and their applications to other fields.
Following this tradition, ISNN 2009 provided an a- demic forum for
the participants to disseminate their new research findings and
discuss emerging areas of research. Also, it created a stimulating
environment for the participants to interact and exchange
information on future research challenges and opportunities of
neural networks and their applications. ISNN 2009 received 1,235
submissions from about 2,459 authors in 29 co- tries and regions
(Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Democratic People's Republic of
Korea, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Islamic
Republic of Iran, Japan, Jordan, Macao, Malaysia, Mexico, Norway,
Qatar, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand,
Tunisia, United Kingdom, United States, Venezuela, Vietnam, and
Yemen) across six continents (Asia, Europe, North America, South
America, Africa, and Oceania). Based on rigorous reviews by the
Program Committee members and reviewers, 95 high-quality papers
were selected to be published in this volume.
With the increasing penetration of renewable energy and distributed
energy resources, smart grid is facing great challenges, which
could be divided into two categories. On the one hand, the
endogenous uncertainties of renewable energy and electricity load
lead to great difficulties in smart grid forecast. On the other
hand, massive electric devices as well as their complex constraint
relationships bring about significant difficulties in smart grid
dispatch. Owe to the rapid development of artificial
intelligence in recent years, several artificial intelligence
enabled computational methods have been successfully applied in the
smart grid and achieved good performances. Therefore, this book is
concerned with the research on the key issues of artificial
intelligence enabled computational methods for smart grid forecast
and dispatch, which consist of three main parts. Â (1)
Introduction for smart grid forecast and dispatch, in inclusion of
reviewing previous contribution of various research methods as well
as their drawbacks to analyze characteristics of smart grid
forecast and dispatch. (2) Artificial intelligence enabled
computational methods for smart grid forecast problems, which are
devoted to present the recent approaches of deep learning and
machine learning as well as their successful applications in smart
grid forecast. (3) Artificial intelligence enabled computational
methods for smart grid dispatch problems, consisting of
edge-cutting intelligent decision-making approaches, which help
determine the optimal solution of smart grid
dispatch.          Â
The book is useful for university researchers, engineers,
and graduate students in electrical engineering and computer
science who wish to learn the core principles, methods, algorithms,
and applications of artificial intelligence enabled computational
methods.
The volume LNCS 8866 constitutes the refereed proceedings of the
11th International Symposium on Neural Networks, ISNN 2014, held in
Hong Kong and Macao, China on November/ December 2014. The 71
revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected
from 119 submissions. These papers cover all major topics of the
theoretical research, empirical study and applications of neural
networks research as follows. The focus is on following topics such
as analysis, modeling, and applications.
