Alban Berg's dark, satirical opera charts the rise and fall of a femme fatale, from life as a society hostess to prostitution and eventually bloody death at the hands of Jack the Ripper. Franz Welser-Most leads the Orchestra of the Zurich Opera House in this production from 2002, with Laura Aiken in the lead role.
Two classic operas --Pietro Mascagni's CAVALLERIA RUSICANA and Ruggero Leoncavallo's PAGLIACCI-- are performed in this vibrant 2009 production directed by Grischa Asagaroff. The 2 operas, which have been traditionally performed together since the late 19th century, star Jose Cura, Paoletta Marrocu and Lilianna Nikiteanu, accompanied by the Orchestra and Chorus of the Zurich Opera House.
Daniele Gatti conducts the Orchestra and Chorus of the Zurich Opera House in this performance of Verdi's final opera, based on the character created by William Shakespeare. When the lecherous Henry Falstaff (Ambrogio Maestri) sends identical letters of love to two wives of Windsor, Alice Ford (Barbara Frittoli) and Meg Page (Judith Schmid), the women decide to teach him a lesson, and send Mistress Quickly (Yvonne Naef) to arrange a rendezvous.
Live production from the Zurich Opera House of Verdi's tour de force. Jürgen Flimm's staging stays close to Verdi's intention, concentrating on the central characters, showing their instability, emotions, despair, love, sacrifice and tragedy rather than focussing on the actions of the Parisian society.
