A television director (Krystyna Janda) sets out to make a documentary about former socialist hero Mateusz Birkut (Jerzy Radiwilowicz). Initially acclaimed as a hero for his brick-laying skills, with marble statues erected in his honour, Birkut was discredited by the government when he became too voluble regarding industrial politics. The director attempts to reveal the true story by interviewing Birkut's family and friends. An Andzej Wajda film which on its release in Poland evoked the wrath of the Polish Communist Party.
Malayalam-language drama following the life of a young revolutionary in the southern Indian state of Kerala. The story of Kunjunni (Vishwanathan)'s life in many ways reflects and represents the story of Kerala as a whole. With little input from his parents, Kunjunni falls under the influence of an uncle (Narendra Prasad) who was formerly a disciple of Ghandi but now considers himself a Marxist. Drawn increasingly towards left-wing ideas, Kunjunni eventually participates in violent protest and is thrown in jail. Upon his release he attempts to start a normal family and to reconcile his dreams with the reality around him. Will he succeed?
