The Vought Corporation developed the F8U Crusader as the Navy's first supersonic fighter (and the world's second supersonic fighter), using the same J57 engine as the F-100 Super Sabre (the first supersonic fighter). First flown in 1955, the F8U employed a unique approach to achieving maximum lift at low airspeeds without the corresponding nose-high attitude - the variable incidence wing. The wing would pop up for take-off and landing, and then lock down into place for normal flight. Academy has reissued their nice 1/72 F-8E Crusader kit with new markings options. The kit is molded in light gray styrene and presented on four trees, plus a single tree of clear parts

During the Second World War the Boeing B-17 became a synonym for the heavily armed strategic bomber. The Boeing B-17F was also the first Flying Fortress to be manufactured using mass production techniques. The most famous aircraft in this series was a B-17F which was delivered on 15th July 1942 and entered service with the 324th Bomber Squadron in England. Her crew named her the Memphis Belle after the girl-friend of her pilot, Lt. Robert K. Morgan. She became famous due to the fact that she was officially recognised as the first U.S. Army Air Force bomber to survive 25 missions in Europe and subsequently became the star of a propaganda film made in Hollywood. After this mission the Memphis Belle and her crew were ordered to return to the United States. She was later bought by the city of Memphis and used as an Open Air Memorial. In all, a total of 12,677 B-17's were built.

Tu-134UBL is a training airplane developed by the Tupolev design office in the early 1980s, based on the successful Tu-134 passenger liner with twin engines in the rear. Unlike the standard plane, the Tu-154 UBL had a special nose and radome designed to simulate the supersonic Tu-22M3 and Tu-160 bombers. This aircraft has the task to train bomber pilots to navigate, land and fly on sensor readings in simple and complicated weather conditions. Simultaneously, the Tu-134UBL provides instruction and training for up to 12 cadets located in the cabin in 3 rows. A total of 90 units were built.
