"Wounded Dogs and Werewolves" is the true story about a boy of seven whose childhood was influenced by abuse, molestation, and the death of his father at a young age, and who then went on to live a lifelong struggle with addiction and depression. As an adult he completely turned from his faith and wandered through life with reckless disregard. After decades of tragic choices, countless years of counseling, financial ruin, and an accident that could have taken his life, he returned to his faith and found something far more valuable than recovery. And he found it where he had never thought to look. Written as a letter between two friends, the stories are sometimes funny, sometimes difficult to read, and often poignant. This tale ends with the kind of ironic insights that wait for the small hours of the morning to emerge, after all else is gone and you are left alone to grace.
In this age of pain, suffering, and fear, God often feels very far away. Finding answers to our human afflictions requires more than simply opening the Bible: we must dig deeper. "Physicians for Brokenness" identifies the difficulties facing the human condition and effectively shows how we can live in a world riddled with "brokenness." Theologist R. Deborah Williams suggests that to truly know why brokenness exists in our world, we must first address its history. Only then can we see that God does not want us to stay uncomforted, but instead wants to help. Williams shows that the answer is in Jesus Christ who redeems, heals, and restores us to a place of wholeness. We are made whole in order to serve those in need through the power of Jesus Christ. By acting like the Good Samaritan, we are instrumental in restoring health and being true physicians to the broken.
This is a story told by a cancer survivor unlike any other story: from the initial shock and disbelief of the diagnosis to the search for answers, second and third opinions, and alternative treatment options; from having to make very painful and life changing decisions to the eventual recovery and return to a normal, productive, and happy life. This is a story of one man's struggle to understand recurrence after recurrence of colon cancer; of dealing not only with the effects of chemotherapy treatment, but also the psychological effects of life after cancer: living with an ostomy pouch as a replacement for the colon that had to be removed; learning to operate the alternative system for the elimination of the body's waste material; and the slow process of accepting and loving a new body. The lessons learned from this experience can benefit all cancer patients and their loved ones, from the newly diagnosed to those who are in remission. In addition, the medical establishment, which struggles every day with the ever increasing load of work involved in caring for these patients, can also benefit from the author's story and learn better ways to communicate with and understand patients undergoing cancer treatment.

As a person born with cystic fibrosis, though not defined by his illness, Michael E Morrison knows better than most how Western medicine works. In the midst of his daily, very painful treatments, not surprisingly he found himself asking, "Is Western medicine the best way forward?" In this well researched and detailed exploration of alternative medicine, Morrison looks at the work of Joao de Deus at the Casa de Dom Inacio in Brazil; the method and benefits of Buteyko breathing; the use of energy medicine; the importance of nutrition; and the use of emotional freedom techniques (EFT)as well as other alternative treatments. He compares the results of Western medicine to those of alternative therapies and finds that, often, getting back to nature and listening to our bodies can be the best way forward in leading a healthy, fulfilled life.
The author has created a modular program for practitioner certification in Constitutional Facial Acupuncture. This book supports the program, and can be used as a self-contained course in the skills covered. Constitutional Facial Acupuncture is a safe, painless and effective treatment for renewing the face and the body. Fine lines may be entirely erased, deep lines reduced and bags around the neck and eyes firmed. This protocol is based upon the use of acu-muscle points and Wakefield explains in detail how to use these specially selected acupuncture points in tandem with muscle structure. The constitutional underpins this approach to facial acupuncture needling - every patient is treated according to their specific constitutional pattern. Facial acupuncture differs from cosmetic acupuncture in this way. According to Chinese physiognomy, the shape of the face, its colouration and its wrinkles are representative of the balance or imbalance of the organ systems and the emotional core of the patient. Fine needles are placed at a variety of acupuncture points on the face, neck and around the eyes to simulate the body's natural energies (qi). Since muscle groups are addressed as well as acupuncture points, the face lifts itself, via the acupuncture points, through the muscles' toning and tightening action. The needles also stimulate blood and circulation, improving facial colour. The book will introduce a complete facial and recommended constitutional treatment protocol including needling instructions, charts and photos that will clarify the details of the treatments. A full topical Chinese herbal treatment for the face that can be integrated with facial needling to achieve more impressive results will also be included. Benefits, contraindications, recommended treatment duration and frequency, short and long-term effects, maintenance treatments, managing patient expectations will all be covered. The protocols covered will be complete in and of themselves, and will provide practitioners with information sufficient for them to successfully become exponents of facial acupuncture. A new and detailed Constitutional Facial Acupuncture protocol highlights acu-muscle points, Shen imbalances, lines and wrinkles, needling technique, relevant points and their locations. A comprehensive constitutional treatment approach A customized, modular topical herbal protocol that is enriched with the use of essential oils and natural cleansers, creams, etc. Practical step-by-step instructions on how to integrate the needling protocols with the topical herbs, jade rollers, gem eye discs, etc. A complete Constitutional Facial Acupuncture needling protocol for 12 problematic areas of the facial landscape, i.e., droopy eyelids, sagging neck, crow's feet, sunken cheeks, etc. Contraindications, benefits, and personal advice drawn from the author's 30+ years of experience An essential text for students or practitioners of facial acupuncture, and also for those readers who are interested in the field of "healthy aging"

As the demand for herbal medicines is increasing globally, the supply of medicinal plants is declining because most of this harvest is derived from wild and naturally growing resources. The genetic improvement of medicinal plants to produce higher yields and more active ingredients might help fulfil the increasing demand for medicinal plants. Medicinal plants are one of the most important sources of life-saving drugs for the world’s population. Increasing global demand for herbal medicines is accompanied by a dwindling supply of medicinal plants due to over-harvesting. Biotechnological interventions play a significant role in the improvement of crop yields and quality. Despite such progress in plant molecular biology, only limited biotechnology application has been seen in medicinal plants. Recent breakthroughs in high-throughput approaches have revolutionized this research area and shifted the focus towards omics approaches, such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics. This book discusses these technologies. Currently, there is no existing publication that focuses on omics and medicinal plants.
