The Ultimate Light Gatherer

The Dobsonian telescopes are named after John Dobson, an amateur astronomer who designed a very simple but effective telescope, where the key factor is a large aperture for little money. His idea was to mount a Newton telescope on an easy-to-use alt-azimuth mount that does not need time-consuming alignments.

Tension Control System
The Tension Control System allows you to adjust the friction setting; to increase or reduce the amount of resistance when moving the tube on the wooden mount, so you always have the appropriate resistance. The secret of the design is to correctly balance the optical tube with the specially designed handles (found on the base) and this adds enough friction and tension to allow the tube to move easily when nudged or to stay solidly in position.

Konusmotor-130 5" f/7.7 Reflector Telescope with RA Motor

The Konusmotor-130 5" f/7.7 Telescope with RA Motor from Konus is an ideal intermediate scope for making observations of the Moon and planets as well as brighter deep sky objects. The 5" primary mirror and anti-reflection multicoated optics ensure images are bright and clear. This German equatorial mount is a step-up from a beginner version with the addition of a Right Ascension tracking motor that counteracts the Earth's rotation and keeps your subjects centered for longer observation sessions. Using the motor to track, instead of the more common manual cable not only ensures steady and smooth movement, but it also greatly reduces vibrations. The manual slow-motion declination cable allows for adjustments if necessary.
