This Christmas, join Michael Rosen and Tony Ross with their
unforgettable retelling of Charles Dickens' beloved classic. In a
school theatrical production of "A Christmas Carol", the boy who
plays Scrooge is extra nervous because his very busy father is in
the audience. However, it's likely his father won't stay for the
duration, due to business. As always. Will the classic story's
message of Christmas cheer and family love reach his father's
distracted heart? with text by Michael Rosen and hilarious line
illustrations by Tony Ross - both national treasures in the
children's book world! "Michael Rosen's clever re-telling of the
Dicken's classic" - The Daily Mail There are two narratives: a
contemporary family story frames (and echoes) the original Dickens
tale, presented as the script of a school play
Translated by Irene Testot-Ferry. The Little Prince is a classic
tale of equal appeal to children and adults. On one level it is the
story of an airman's discovery, in the desert, of a small boy from
another planet - the Little Prince of the title - and his stories
of intergalactic travel, while on the other hand it is a
thought-provoking allegory of the human condition. First published
in 1943, the year before the author's death in action, this
translation contains Saint-Exupery's delightful illustrations.
From master storyteller MICHAEL MORPURGO, and illustrated by the
award-winning EMMA CHICHESTER CLARK, comes a surprising, charming and
uplifting twist on The Wizard of Oz, told by a very special and
unforgettable character: Dorothy’s pet dog, Toto. A perfect,
collectible gift for all children (and children at heart).
“I was there,” Papa Toto said, and those magic words sent shivers down
my spine. It was going to be the Wizard story. “Dorothy and me were
both there.”
We were all silent, snuggled up together, waiting, waiting.
Then Papa Toto began…
When a twister descends on their Kansas farm, Toto and his owner
Dorothy hide in the house – only to be plucked into the air and whisked
away!
Coming down with a crash in the mysterious land of Oz, the pair meet a
series of extraordinary characters: a scarecrow who believes he has no
brains, a tin man without a heart, and a cowardly lion who may not be
as cowardly as he thinks he is.
But Toto and Dorothy are desperate to return home – after all, home is
home, and home is best! So they set off with their new friends on a
journey down the yellow brick road to find the only person who might be
able to help them: the Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
But what they find might surprise them. And on the way, all of them
will learn that what they think they are missing might have been there,
all along…
Beautifully illustrated throughout, this is an unforgettable telling of
a classic story, and a must for every bookshelf.
Bestselling author Holly Webb revisits the much-loved classic A
Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. It is 1913, nine years
after the end of A Little Princess saw Sara Crewe escape Miss
Minchin's orphanage. Lottie, the smallest girl from the original
story, learns about the Suffragette movement from Sara, who returns
to visit from time to time. Soon Lottie finds herself sneaking out
of the orphanage to attend a demonstration, in defiance of her
cold, distant father. A father who has a secret to hide about her
own missing mother... It's a story about lost mothers turning up in
unexpected situations, the power of friendship and female
empowerment. Revisit beloved characters and meet some new ones in
this retelling of the classic story, A Little Princess. The
original book by Frances Hodgson Burnett is one of the most loved
children's classics of all time. Holly Webb has previously
published a sequel to the classic novel The Secret Garden called
Return to the Secret Garden.
Frances Hodgson Burnett was an English-American playwright and
author. She is best known for her children's stories, in particular
"The Secret Garden," "A Little Princess," and "Little Lord
Fauntleroy," Following the death of her mother in 1872,
eighteen-year-old Frances found herself the head of a family of
four younger siblings. She turned to writing to support them all.
Her main writing talent was combining realistic detail of
working-class life with a romantic plot.
"The Lost Prince" features Marco Loristan, his father Stefan,
and his friend, a street urchin named "The Rat," Marco's father is
working to overthrow the cruel dictatorship in the kingdom of
Samavia. Marco and his father Stefan come to London where Marco
becomes friends with "The Rat," Stefan, realizing that two boys are
less likely to be noticed, entrusts them with a secret mission to
travel across Europe giving the secret sign: "The Lamp is lighted,"
to help bring about a revolution and restore the rightful king.
More the story of the battle that rages inside the hero, Henry
Fleming, than of that between Confederate and Union soldiers, the
novel is, as its author has said, a psychological study of fear.
"A wonderful book for kids to curl up with at bedtime" - The
Observer "Full of delight and warmth and tenderness" - Sunday Times
On Monday, a boy finds a polar bear in his garden... only, this
polar bear is so small he can fit in the palm of the boy's hand.
"Are you lost, Little Bear?" the boy asks. "Can I help you?" Day by
day the bear grows - and so does their friendship - until the boy
realises that it's time for the bear to go home. A tender,
stunningly illustrated fable about letting go with love from the
creator of Perdu. Also by Richard Jones: Perdu Where Have You Been
