Gator has just never seemed to fit in with the other neighborhood
pets...probably because he has a nasty habit of eating the other
neighborhood pets. Flushed down the toilet as a little snapper,
Gator spends his days alone in the sewers... On the streets above,
little Gabby has never seemed to fit in with the other kids in
town. She'd rather collect bottles and practice her tuba than
gossip with the girls down at the pool, but it does get lonely
being the only vegetarian on the block... When Gabby and Gator
meet, their fun and adventures prove that the best friends are
those who accept you as you are, teeth and all!

This beautiful graphic-novel adaptation of The Breadwinner animated
film tells the story of eleven-year-old Parvana who must disguise
herself as a boy to support her family during the Taliban's rule in
Afghanistan. Parvana lives with her family in one room of a
bombed-out apartment building in Kabul, Afghanistan's capital city.
Parvana's father - a history teacher until his school was bombed
and his health destroyed - works from a blanket on the ground in
the marketplace, reading letters for people who cannot read or
write. One day, he is arrested for having forbidden books, and the
family is left without someone who can earn money or even shop for
food. As conditions for the family grow desperate, only one
solution emerges. Forbidden to earn money as a girl, Parvana must
transform herself into a boy, and become the breadwinner. Deborah
Ellis's beloved novel has been adapted for film by Aircraft
Pictures, Cartoon Saloon and Melusine Productions in association
with Angelina Jolie's production company, jolie pas productions.
The animated feature film, directed by Nora Twomey, will launch in
the UK in 2018.

A historical graphic novel inspired by the life of Harlem's
legendary mobster, Stephanie Saint-ClairQueenie follows the life of
Stephanie Saint-Clair-the infamous criminal who made herself a
legend in Harlem in the 1930s. Born on a plantation in the French
colony of Martinique, Saint-Clair left the island in 1912 and
headed for the United States, eager to make a new life for herself.
In New York she found success, rising up through poverty and
battling extreme racism to become the ruthless queen of Harlem's
mafia and a fierce defender of the Black community. A racketeer and
a bootlegger, Saint-Clair dedicated her wealth and compassion to
the struggling masses of Harlem, giving loans and paying debts to
those around her. But with Prohibition ending, and under threat by
Italian mobsters seeking to take control of her operation, she
launched a merciless war to save her territory and her skin. In an
America still swollen by depression and segregation, Saint-Clair
understood that her image was a tool she could use to establish her
power and wield as a weapon against her opponents. Author Aurelie
Levy and illustrator Elizabeth Colomba's meticulous details-in both
story and art-bring Saint-Clair's story to life in a tense
narrative, against a sometimes bloody backdrop of jazz and voodoo.
The story tackles the themes of colonization, corruption, police
violence, and racial identity, but above all, Queenie celebrates
the genius of a woman forgotten by history.
