Static Crosstalk-Noise Analysis - For Deep Sub-Micron Digital Designs (Hardcover, 2004 ed.): Pinhong Chen, Desmond A.... Static Crosstalk-Noise Analysis - For Deep Sub-Micron Digital Designs (Hardcover, 2004 ed.)
Pinhong Chen, Desmond A. Kirkpatrick, Kurt Keutzer
R2,717 Discovery Miles 27 170 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

As the feature size decreases in deep sub-micron designs, coupling capacitance becomes the dominant factor in total capacitance. The resulting crosstalk noise may be responsible for signal integrity issues and significant timing variation. Traditionally, static timing analysis tools have ignored cross coupling effects between wires altogether. Newer tools simply approximate the coupling capacitance by a 2X Miller factor in order to compute the worst case delay. The latter approach not only reduces delay calculation accuracy, but can also be shown to underestimate the delay in certain scenarios.
This book describes accurate but conservative methods for computing delay variation due to coupling. Furthermore, most of these methods are computationally efficient enough to be employed in a static timing analysis tool for complex integrated digital circuits. To achieve accuracy, a more accurate computation of the Miller factor is derived. To achieve both computational efficiency and accuracy, a variety of mechanisms for pruning the search space are detailed, including:

-Spatial pruning - reducing aggressors to those in physical proximity,
-Electrical pruning - reducing aggressors by electrical strength,
-Temporal pruning - reducing aggressors using timing windows,
-Functional pruning - reducing aggressors by Boolean functional analysis.

Satellite Network Robust QoS-aware Routing (Hardcover, 2014 ed.): Fei Long Satellite Network Robust QoS-aware Routing (Hardcover, 2014 ed.)
Fei Long
R3,182 Discovery Miles 31 820 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

"Satellite Network Robust QoS-aware Routing" presents a novel routing strategy for satellite networks. This strategy is useful for the design of multi-layered satellite networks as it can greatly reduce the number of time slots in one system cycle. The traffic prediction and engineering approaches make the system robust so that the traffic spikes can be handled effectively. The multi-QoS optimization routing algorithm can satisfy various potential user requirements. Clear and sufficient illustrations are also presented in the book. As the chapters cover the above topics independently, readers from different research backgrounds in constellation design, multi-QoS routing, and traffic engineering can benefit from the book.

Fei Long is a senior engineer at Beijing R&D Center of 54th Research Institute of China Electronics Technology Group Corporation.

Coding for Optical Channels (Hardcover, 2010 Ed.): Ivan Djordjevic, William Ryan, Bane Vasic Coding for Optical Channels (Hardcover, 2010 Ed.)
Ivan Djordjevic, William Ryan, Bane Vasic
R4,257 Discovery Miles 42 570 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

In order to adapt to the ever-increasing demands of telecommunication needs, today 's network operators are implementing 100 Gb/s per dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) channel transmission. At those data rates, the performance of fiberoptic communication systems is degraded significantly due to intra- and inter-channel fiber nonlinearities, polarization-mode dispersion (PMD), and chromatic dispersion. In order to deal with those channel impairments, novel advanced techniques in modulation and detection, coding and signal processing are needed.

This unique book represents a coherent and comprehensive introduction to the fundamentals of optical communications, signal processing and coding for optical channels. It is the first to integrate the fundamentals of coding theory with the fundamentals of optical communication.

High-Order Modulation for Optical Fiber Transmission (Hardcover, 2009 ed.): Matthias Seimetz High-Order Modulation for Optical Fiber Transmission (Hardcover, 2009 ed.)
Matthias Seimetz
R2,685 Discovery Miles 26 850 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

The deployment of high-order modulation formats in optical fiber transmission systems is presently seen as a promising way of increasing spectral efficiency and of making better use of the capacity of currently existing fiber infrastructure. Catering to this interest, this book presents possible ways of generating and detecting optical signals with high-order phase and quadrature amplitude modulation and characterizes their system and transmission properties.

Several implementation options for high-order modulation optical transmitters are possible. Their optical and electrical parts are described and their individual signal properties are discussed. Receiver concepts with direct detection, homodyne differential detection and homodyne synchronous detection are illustrated, starting with optical frontends and ending with concrete data recovery. The description of transmitters and receivers provided in the first part of the book not only helps to demonstrate their functioning, but also allows their complexity and practicability to be estimated and compared.

To advance understanding of the system and transmission behavior of high-order modulation formats for optical fiber transmission, various system parameters such as noise performances, optimal receiver filter bandwidths, required laser linewidths and the chromatic dispersion and self phase modulation tolerances of a wide range of modulation formats are highlighted in the second part of the book, considering different line codes and many transmitter and receiver configurations. Currently, the determination of attainable transmission distances for multi-span long-haul transmission using high-order modulation formats represents an exciting field of research. Recent results in this area are also covered by this book.

This monograph is intended for students and researchers in the field of optical communications, as well as for system designers who want to learn about the properties and complexity of optical systems employing high-order modulation.

Optimal Mobile Sensing and Actuation Policies in Cyber-physical Systems (Hardcover, 2012): Christophe Tricaud, Yangquan Chen Optimal Mobile Sensing and Actuation Policies in Cyber-physical Systems (Hardcover, 2012)
Christophe Tricaud, Yangquan Chen
R2,653 Discovery Miles 26 530 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

A successful cyber-physical system, a complex interweaving of hardware and software with some part of the physical environment, depends on proper identification of the, often pre-existing, physical element. A bespoke "cyber" part of the system may then be designed from scratch. Optimal Mobile Sensing and Actuation Strategies in Cyber-physical Systems focuses on distributed-parameter systems the dynamics of which can be modelled with partial differential equations. These are very challenging to observe, their states and inputs being distributed throughout a spatial domain. Consequently, systematic approaches to the optimization of sensor location have to be devised for parameter estimation. The text begins by reviewing the field of cyber-physical systems and introducing background notions of distributed parameter systems and optimal observation theory. New research problems are then defined within this framework. Two important problems considered are optimal mobile sensor trajectory planning and the accuracy effects and allocation of remote sensors. These are followed up with a solution to the problem of optimal robust estimation. Actuation policies are then introduced into the framework with the purpose of improving estimation and optimizing the trajectories of both sensors and actuators simultaneously. The large number of illustrations within the text will assist the reader to visualize the application of the methods proposed. A group of similar examples are used throughout the book to help the reader assimilate the material more easily. The monograph concentrates on the use of methods for which a cyber-physical-systems infrastructure is required. The methods are computationally heavy and require mobile sensors and actuators with communications abilities. Application examples cover fields from environmental science to national security so that readers are encouraged to link the ideas of cyber-physical systems with their own research.
