Twelve year Coby Jay Evans; nickname Shorty should have been ready.
It shouldn't have been a complete surprise. His Grandpa died of
cancer. He promised to take care of Grandma. So, every night he
called her. As a diversion from their grieving process he and
Grandma; code name, the" Sneakies" planned to follow mom and dad;
code name the "Friendlies" to Las Vegas. Grandma sounded happy when
they talked about the trip. The status of the vacation changed from
a fun idea to a secret mission. While in Vegas Sneakies are watched
by the Secret Service as persons of interest in a possible plot to
harm the president who is in town. The Sneakies were luckier and
had more fun than the Friendlies until Coby single handedly
compromised their mission. How could he be so stupid? Maybe he
deserved the knick-name he hated so much. A message from Grandpa
gives him the courage to complete the mission. At the end of each
chapter the reader will have an opportunity to decipher additional
story Intel. The story begins and ends in small town Nebraska,
features football analogies, flashbacks to Grandpa's buffalo ranch,
and a connection to the Middle Ages through a six inch tall silver
knight. Coby Jay misses his grandfather, hates his knick name,
feels belittled by his family, learns family secrets, and has the
adventure of a lifetime
When Katie Brashers announces to her friends that she's headed to
Orlando, Florida, for spring break, no one thinks twice. But when
school resumes and Katie is nowhere to be found, her
sixteen-year-old classmate and friend, Michelle Martin, grows
suspicious. The school staff claims that the family moved to
Florida, but Michelle doesn't buy it. First, Katie never said
goodbye to her devoted boyfriend, Brad; and second, Katie still has
a treasured family book Michelle gave her to read-a book Katie
promised to return. Something doesn't make sense. Michelle and her
best friend, Tami, team up with Brad to investigate the family's
disappearance, but it's not easy. Not only do they have to dodge
Michelle's demanding, nosey mother, but they also have to sneak
around the neighborhood while avoiding arrest for trespassing.
After talking to neighbors and looking inside the house, they still
have nothing but circumstantial evidence. Michelle is about ready
to give up-until she takes her dog for their daily walk and
uncovers a concrete clue. The clue leads her closer to the truth,
but also thrusts her into dangerous circumstances beyond her
control. If she isn't careful, Michelle could end up like
Katie-gone without a trace.
Larry Jack arrives home from the Korean War with a divorce and
no prospects for a future he now assumes will be lonely. As luck
would have it, however, with his discharge paper still in hand,
Larry Jack is offered the job of a lifetime as a revenuer in his
homeland of Arkansas County, Arkansas. He is placed in charge of
investigating bootleggers and possible drug dealers in the
region-and even though he's a native, he does not receive the
warmest of welcomes.
Larry Jack's Arkansas is a bit wild; there are vicious feuds,
rough-andtumble fighting in the honky-tonks, and shootouts on the
town square. Despite their personal differences, though, the people
of the bayou have one thing in common: distaste for authority
figures, which makes his job difficult. His life gets even more
interesting when he encounters an old flame by the name of Mary
Ann.
Meanwhile, it soon becomes apparent in his investigation that
Larry Jack isn't just dealing with local crooks. A crime syndicate
is behind the drugdealing, and in order to convict Larry Jack will
have to risk his own life against not only guns but also water
moccasins, alligators, and bears. With Mary Ann at his side, he
might be able to navigate the bayou, but how will he bring these
criminals to justice without ending up with a bullet in the
back?
One of BuzzFeed's best YA books of 2021! Perfect for fans of the
Lady Janies and Stalking Jack the Ripper, the first book in the
Jane Austen Murder Mysteries trilogy is a clever retelling of Pride
and Prejudice that reimagines the iconic settings, characters, and
romances in a thrilling and high-stakes whodunit. When a scandalous
murder shocks London high society, seventeen-year-old aspiring
lawyer Lizzie Bennet seizes the opportunity to prove herself,
despite the interference of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, the stern young
heir to the prestigious firm Pemberley Associates. Convinced the
authorities have imprisoned the wrong person, Lizzie vows to solve
the murder on her own. But as the case-and her feelings for
Darcy-become more complicated, Lizzie discovers that her dream job
could make her happy, but it might also get her killed. Three of
Jane Austen's classic novels receive a murder mystery makeover in
this romantic and thrilling three-book series that's perfect for
fans of The Lady's Guide to Petticoats and Piracy. Pride and
Premeditation is followed by Sense and Second-Degree Murder, in
which aspiring scientist Elinor Dashwood and her sister Marianne, a
budding detective, work together to solve the mystery of their
father's murder.
What Brynn Caldwell can't remember might get her killed. Brynn is a
promising science student recovering from a bad relationship that
sent her spiraling into depression. But as she puts the pieces of
her life back together, a few don't fit. Brynn is uncovering
memories of being abducted and possibly brainwashed. It's all
connected to a drug that might be an ultimate weapon: a tool to
control people's memories. Now, to stop a possible terrorist
attack, Brynn has to find out what she's been forced to forget -
and what side she's really on. Homeland meets Mr. Robot in this
fast-paced YA thriller. It's all told in the voice of an unreliable
narrator who endures betrayals from her boyfriend, her best friend,
her parents - and even herself.
Video games have never been more murderous. Veronica wakes up
trapped with four strangers in a sprawling manor house in a snow
storm with a dead body, a mystery right out of an Agatha Christie
novel. It feels so real - but it isn't. This is VR and this is THE
Game; a rumoured Easter Egg hidden in other VR games that draws you
into a competition for a prize beyond your wildest dreams. And
there's no escaping the VR world until the Game is won. But while
Veronica and her fellow players are trying to figure out the
puzzle, something is not right in the VR world. Blackouts,
glitches, NPCs acting strange, and a mysterious figure haunting
their footsteps. Then when a player dies, and also dies in real
life, all hell breaks loose. Without warning, the game Veronica
thought she was playing gets overshadowed by a much darker, and
much more real, mystery: who is killing us?' It may not be a game
Veronica wanted to play, but it's one that she has to win - or die
trying.
