A thoroughly updated introduction to electric machines and adjustable speed drives All machines have power requirements, and finding the right balance of economy and performance can be a challenge to engineers. Principles of Electric Machines with Power Electronic Applications provides a thorough grounding in the principles of electric machines and the closely related area of power electronics and adjustable speed drives. Designed for both students and professionals seeking a foundation in the fundamental structure of modern-day electric power systems from a technical perspective, this lucid, succinct guide has been completely revised and updated to cover: - The fundamental underpinnings of electromechanical energy conversion devices
- Transformers
- Induction machines
- Synchronous machines
- DC machines
- Power electronic components, systems, and their applications to adjustable speed drives
Enhanced by numerous solved problems, sample examinations and test sets, and computer-based solutions assisted by MATLAB scripts, this new edition of Principles of Electric Machines with Power Electronic Applications serves equally well as a practical reference and a handy self-study guide to help engineers maintain their professional edge in this essential field.

Integrates the traditional approach to differential equations with the modern systems and control theoretic approach to dynamic systems, emphasizing theoretical principles and classic models in a wide variety of areas. Provides a particularly comprehensive theoretical development that includes chapters on positive dynamic systems and optimal control theory. Contains numerous problems.

Reliability-centred Maintenance is a process used to determine -
systematically and scientifically - what must be done to ensure
that physical assets continue to do what their users want them to
do. Widely recognised by maintenance professionals as the most
cost-effective way to develop world-class maintenance strategies,
RCM leads to rapid, sustained and substantial improvements in plant
availability and reliability, product quality, safety and
environmental integrity. The author and his associates have helped
users to apply RCM and its more modern derivative, RCM2, on more
than 600 sites in 32 countries. These sites include all types of
manufacturing (especially automobile, steel, paper, petrochemical,
pharmaceutical and food manufacturing, utilities (water, gas and
electricity), armed forces, building services, mining
telecommunications and transport. This book summarises this
experience in the form of an authoritative and completely practical
description of what RCM2 is and how it should be applied. The
second edition has been comprehensively revised to incorporate the
most recent developments in this field. It includes more than 100
pages of new material on condition monitoring, the analysis of
functions and failures, human error, the management of risk,
failure-finding and the measurement of maintenance performance.
This book will be of immense value to maintenance managers, and to
anyone else concerned with the reliability, productivity, safety
and environmental integrity of physical assets. Its
straightforward, plant-based approach makes the book especially
well suited to use in centres of higher education. John Moubray,
BSc (Mech Eng), spent his early career developing and implementing
maintenance management systems, first as a plant engineer then as a
consultant. In the early 1980s, he began to focus on the industrial
application of RCM under the guidance of the late F Stanley Nowlan.
In 1986, he set up Aladon Ltd, a consulting and training company
based in Lutterworth, UK. He is currently managing director of
Aladon, which specialises exclusively in the development of
reliability-centre management processes and their application to
physical assets.
This text presents a comprehensive treatment of signal processing
and linear systems suitable for undergraduate students in
electrical engineering, It is based on Lathi's widely used book,
Linear Systems and Signals, with additional applications to
communications, controls, and filtering as well as new chapters on
analog and digital filters and digital signal processing. This
volume's organization is different from the earlier book. Here, the
Laplace transform follows Fourier, rather than the reverse;
continuous-time and discrete-time systems are treated sequentially,
rather than interwoven. Additionally, the text contains enough
material in discrete-time systems to be used not only for a
traditional course in signals and systems but also for an
introductory course in digital signal processing. In Signal
Processing and Linear Systems Lathi emphasizes the physical
appreciation of concepts rather than the mere mathematical
manipulation of symbols. Avoiding the tendency to treat engineering
as a branch of applied mathematics, he uses mathematics not so much
to prove an axiomatic theory as to enhance physical and intuitive
understanding of concepts. Wherever possible, theoretical results
are supported by carefully chosen examples and analogies, allowing
students to intuitively discover meaning for themselves.
An authoritative textbook on construction management offering a
clear model for understanding theoretical aspects.
The construction industry has become a truly global network of
interconnected stakeholders making demands which require the
involvement of skilled workforces from all over the world.
"Construction Management" "Strategies "sets the foundations for
understanding and managing construction's inherent complexity and
uniqueness. It establishes clear definitions of commonly accepted
terms like built environment, construction, civil engineering, etc.
which are often given confusing and conflicting interpretations. It
cuts through the plethora of overlapping role titles currently used
in the construction sector that make it difficult to establish how
projects are actually managed.
"Construction Management Strategies" Offers a robust and
consistent theoretical basis to explain the performance of the main
approaches to construction management.Describes corporate and
project management in construction as an integrated whole.Provides
the basic toolkit a student needs to think through the practical
situations they will later face.Helps bring the theory of
construction management to international students who struggle to
find a solid grounding in this complex and fragmented
subject.Includes a companion website featuring a wealth of directly
transferable examples for students, as well as PPT slides and topic
discussion ideas for lecturers.
This popular, world-wide selling textbook teaches engineering
mathematics in a step-by-step fashion and uniquely through
engineering examples and exercises which apply the techniques right
from their introduction. This contextual use of mathematics is
highly motivating, as with every topic and each new page students
see the importance and relevance of mathematics in engineering. The
examples are taken from mechanics, aerodynamics, electronics,
engineering, fluid dynamics and other areas. While being general
and accessible for all students, they also highlight how
mathematics works in any individual's engineering discipline. The
material is often praised for its careful pace, and the author
pauses to ask questions to keep students reflecting. Proof of
mathematical results is kept to a minimum. Instead the book
develops learning by investigating results, observing patterns,
visualizing graphs and answering questions using technology. This
textbook is ideal for first year undergraduates and those on
pre-degree courses in Engineering (all disciplines) and Science.
New to this Edition: - Fully revised and improved on the basis of
student feedback - New sections - More examples, more exam
questions - Vignettes and photos of key mathematicians Accompanying
