Celebrate Chinese New Year and learn how every animal earned its
place in the Chinese zodiac by taking part in the Great Race!
Discover who will come first to win the ultimate prize, and find
out why Cat will never forgive his friend Rat in this ancient folk
tale that has been passed from generation to generation. Praise for
Deep in the Woods, the previous title from Christopher Corr: '...
the book looks like a delectable candy box... There is a lesson
here - about friendship, and sharing - but the book never feels
plodding or pedantic... Which may be why the lesson just goes down
like the truth.'
From the author of the Pegasus series comes a spellbinding first
book in a new fantasy series for fans of Rick Riordan and Shannon
Messenger following two cousins whose summer vacation gets swept
away by a storm that lands them on the lost island of Atlantis. The
last way that Riley Evans wanted to spend spring break was studying
whales on the family sailboat in the middle of the Bermuda
Triangle. With only her dad, aunt, and annoying cousin Alfie for
company, she is so bored staring at the waves that she's starting
to see mermaids between them. But when their boat is capsized
during a sudden storm, Riley finds more excitement than she
bargained for as she and Alfie are washed ashore with neither of
their parents in sight. Where they've been shipwrecked is no
deserted island, though. Atlantis is a place beyond imagination,
inhabited by both people and incredible creatures ranging from
unicorns and gargoyles to talking animals. But not everyone
welcomes the cousins' arrival, and beneath the wonder of this
mythical land lurk dangerous secrets-something strange is happening
to the inhabitants. What Riley wants more than anything is to find
her father and go home. But the closer she gets to this goal, the
more the islanders seem determined to keep her from reaching it. As
Riley and Alfie unravel the mystery of Atlantis and its most
terrifying part, the Forbidden Zone, they realize that the clock is
ticking. If they can't learn what happened to their parents and
find a way off the island soon, it may be too late to leave.
Through these enchanting stories, Barbara Dean teaches her young
readers about life. Learn about time and the importance of living
each stage of life to the full. Discover the beauty of friendship
and acceptance of others. Read about how the characters in each
story use determination and strength to stretch themselves and
grow. This mythical collection of stories provides young children
with many life lessons which will help prepare them for their own
growth and development as they embark on their own journey of life.
This first book in the Last Dragon Charmer series is packed with
adventure and wit, perfect for fans of Soman Chainani's School for
Good and Evil series and Chris Colfer's Land of Stories series. All
his life, Prince Caden has dreamed of slaying a dragon. But before
he has the chance, he is ripped from his home in the Great
Winterlands of Razzon and finds himself in Asheville, North
Carolina-a land with no magic and no dragons. Or so he thinks. The
longer Caden spends in Asheville, the more he comes to realize that
there is unexpected and dangerous magic in this strange land. There
just may be dragons here too. But what if Caden's destiny isn't to
slay a dragon, after all?
Danyana "Yana" Morneen, the only child of a widowed cobbler, has
always wondered why the forest seems so sad. Dark and lifeless, it
sits on the outskirts of town, never producing the lush greenness
she longs for. As Yana explores the secrets of the forest, she
tries in vain to keep an admirer's advances at bay.
Many women in the village desire Nicolas Vanlock, the wealthy,
handsome son of a local merchant, but he only has eyes for Yana.
For as long as she can remember, Nicolas has been trying to force
himself into her life, and now he desires marriage. But Yana knows
that her destiny does not lie with Nicolas.
As she ventures further into the forest and its secrets, Yana
discovers a lush, hidden estate in the very heart of the woods and
is surrounded by magic she cannot comprehend. Her visits to the
property's garden of roses become more frequent, and she becomes
aware of a presence in the dilapidated old mansion. Nicolas fears
he is losing his true love to another, and he begins a relentless
campaign to claim Yana's heart.
If Nicolas has his way, Yana will never be allowed to enter the
enchanted forest again .

In a person's life they find themselves in memorable situations
that bring them close to others. Some of my most memorable moments
occurred with all my grandchildren when I was able to share time
with them through these stories. The memorable times occurred in
telling them stories about Silver Eagle's adventures. The stories
would develop during the telling and of course after the particular
adventure was over the discussions continued with them and what
Silver Eagle was going to do on his next adventure. The story
telling produced immediate reaction from the grandchildren from
hiding under the covers to falling asleep when the fifth word was
out of my mouth. But in all cases the story telling was always
requested before bedtime.
It is the great memories of the shared times and the
encouragement of the grandchildren, children and my wonderful wife,
Mary, that I have begun to write some of the stories. Hopefully
they can be enjoyed by all children.
The goal of printing this book is to encourage and excite all
children to open their minds through reading and enjoy what the
mind does in creating images as the stories unfold. I hope that
your time reading these short adventures of "Silver Eagle, the
Legend" is enjoyable and a start to the reading of all the great
books, novels and stories both fiction and non-fiction that will be
your eyes to the world.
