Artists' Oil Colour uses the highest level of pigmentation consistent with the broadest handling properties. The quantity of pigment used provides covering power and tinting strength.

Oil-based pastel crayons offer wonderful opportunities of applying both extremely intense, strong colours and delicate pastel tones. Due to their high luminosity, the crayons are ideal for encaustic as well as various pastel and scraping techniques.

Depending on the desired artistic effect, you can use your finger to wipe them or blend them with a paintbrush and turpentine (or white spirit).

Aquafine uses Daler-Rowney’s unique formulation of thick and thin filaments, tapered to a point, as well as different lengths to become a remarkable imitation of natural sable hair. This special construction allows Daler-Rowney synthetic brushes to outperform all other synthetic brushes in point and stroke, and guarantees that the brushes will not split. To achieve the outstanding characteristics, like reusable paint when dried on a palette and the high control of paint flow even on soft water-colour papers Schmincke only use the best raw materials. In its colouristic appearance the total assortment is particularly harmonious, balanced and complete.

One main ingredient of the water-colour binding medium is Kordofan Gum Arabic from the southern Sahara region. Like most natural products this traditional water-colour binding medium differs from year to year. Therefore Schmincke is testing Gum Arabic every time before purchase and selects only the best crop of the respective year. This adds small but significant quality advantages. Other formula ingredients are selected equally carefully and of course are integrated in each formula in an individual optimised way to obtain a harmonious assortment, that can be easily picked up by the brush.

Another traditional quality criterion is the re-usability of the Horadam Aquarell water-colours while using the same formulation for tubes and pans. Both properties, the reusability and the control of the paint flow can only be achieved by pouring water-colours into pans in a liquid state, which is really unique.

With over 100 years of experience in crafting the finest artist quality canvases, Claessens is recognised worldwide as a leader in the field. Each Claessens canvas undergoes a rigorous treatment and process to meet different requirements for artists.

First, all raw canvases are sized with a synthetic PVA glue. For oil primed canvases, the next step involves applying a primer of zinc white paint bound with linseed oil to the glued linen, by means of two knives. The canvas is then put into a drying room for three days where it air-dries naturally.

After this first initial drying time, the canvas is then sanded and a coating layer based on titanium white is applied to the canvas by means of two knives and a roller. The canvas is then placed in the drying room for another ten days.
